Make sure you get NiMh batts and not NiCd.

Second on the NiMH. NiMH do not have memory like the NiCads do. The only thing is that you should leave the with a about a 20-40% charge if you aren't going to run them for a week or so. IT keeps them from going bad.

I found some good 3300 packs on sale for $20 NiMh the problem I am running into is a chrger all of them seem to take at least 1 1/2 hours to charge one of these packs any suggestions. Also the guy at my LHS said if I get 15 min out of one of these sticks I would be doing good??

Thanks for the help also whats the deal with becoming a gold member with other access?

Thanks after I get the 2 trucks i will have to join because i will be asking alot more questions as i am real new to this what do you think about the batt issue with hime telling me max 15 min run time and at least 1.5 to 2 hours to charge is that false?

15 minute run times is an estimate, at best. It all depends on how hard you drive the rig, how good the battery connections are to the ESC and motor, the condition of the motor, etc.

As for charge times, it may take a hour to hour-and-a-half for the initial charge, yes, but afterwards, it won't take that long (and it beats waiting 8 or so hours). Think of it this way. My Chevy Tahoe has a 33 gallon gas tank. Even when the gauge is pegged at "E", I've never actually put 33 gallons of gas in it, more like 25 (and that's with the needle pushing past "E").

Like as been suggested, get yourself 3 or 4 packs and your brother will never be without a charged battery (unless you never charge them afterwards).

Get yourself a decent peak detection charger. The MRC Superbrain 959 is a around $45 and will get the job done. For another $50, the MRC Superbrain 977 is better and you can charge 2 packs at one time.

Both are quality chargers for their respective prices.

I have the Superbrain 969 which was replaced by the 977 and like it very much. I seem to use it over my Triton every time.

Run time will depend on driving habits as mentioned. Also, the higher the mah rating, the more runtime you will get out of the batt. Unfortunately, the higher the mah rating, the higher the cost. There are good deals on quality packs to be found however.

Here is a 3800mah NimH pack for $26. Quality pack from a trusted seller.

stampede xl5 is a good truck for a good price...

nitro is too much for a little kid, and sometimes too much for grown ups.

its much easier and cleaner and safer to just run an electric.

if its too slow for him, put a hot motor in it or go brushless and it will haul a$$

and robmob. it says on that page for the battery that a rapid charge is 1.5 hours. is that true? seems rediculous, most of my batteries charge in about 15-30 minutes. for 3300's

I have a new Stampede. 15-20 mins is about right(3300), depending on how you drive it. What a fun little truck, you WONT be dissapointed with it. You can look into the Duratrax twin charger, it will do 2 at once. As will the new MRC charger.
I have run my Stampede, as has another members son,he's 5.(corradopsi) He ran it at the track. actually held up REALLY well. The nice thing about the new ESC is that you can set it to 50% power till the new drive gets the hang of using it. Then you can put it to 100% It is a fast little motor for a RTR.
