So the servo in my truck is junk do i have to put the same type back in or can i buy a different brand

what is your truck? and what servo are you using?......in short yes you can buy a different brand servo, to replace your current one.

Its the thunder quake i know they dont make them anymore but going to keep it running as long as i can the truck is in like brand new condition the servo is duratrax sx-210mg

Okay, thanks.
Is the servo shot or just really weak? If it still works you can save it to replace the throttle servo when you need it and upgrade to a higher torque servo for the steering.
You might want to look into the Hitec MG-645. That's a good servo for the money. You'll get a few more suggestions, so just hang in there.

It still works just has a hard time turning the tires when i connected it back up tried holding the splines i couldnt stop it with my fingers thanks for your help I'm a rookie

If it used to work okay but you're having a problem after changing things, disconnect it and see if you can find any resistance in the steering by moving the front wheels side to side by hand.
Most stock servos have a hard time steering if the truck is sitting still on the ground, but will work fine once it's moving.
