Hello, I’m not new to RC but, I am new to the board and racing. (Always been a Basher) As my first introduction post I am interested in radio systems, I noticed in general from reading the board here and elsewhere that everyone seems to like the DX3Rpro as the top radio system.

Hopefully this hasn’t been addressed yet but; do you guys imagine the new Traxxes IPhone link system will become the preferred system of 2012?

Excited to be a New Member :D

Hey, welcome to RCNT. I think that the new Traxxas Iphone link is a very nice looking radio system to use. The most important flaw that I can see is that it ONLY uses an Iphone to operate (from what I can see). This excludes alot of people from using such a system given that there are still many people that use other brands of phones. I think Traxxas should have adapted it for use with all smart phones that an app could be downloaded to. That being said, I personally would trade in my phone to get an iphone just so that I would be able to use this system....because it looks so damn cool.

Thankfully the only thing using the system so far is the XO-1 on road car. I don't really agree with forcing someone into buying an iphone, or any other device for that matter to unlock a feature (100mph) on an RC vehicle. It should be ready to go out of the box if it's being sold as an RTR, period. RC manufacturers jumping in bed with third party vendors that have absolutely nothing to do with RC does nothing at all for the hobby, worse it has the potential as seen in this case to make an already expensive hobby even more so. And that's not the way to attract new people to the sport / hobby at all. Granted this isn't on an entry level car, but still, all things start somewhere. Just my .02

I think that Traxxas would have been better off integrating a touch screen into the new RX so that like you say they wouldn't be tied up with third party vendors. What happens if iphones go "out of style", then you've got an average radio again.

Hello & thanks for the Reply’s.
I was really hoping for more information about radio systems from the Guru’s. From the looks of the new Traxxes system I see no reason not to use it in every RC a person has, it remembers all the details for up to 20 cars/trucks without pushing a button. The information is presented in modern and classy but yet useful looks, while everyone else is more digital watch type information. You can study your status and make setting adjustments at the end of the day sitting on the couch. Am I missing something? Seems to me there should be more hoopla about it, instead feels more like a taboo topic.

They have other radios out that have the same functions but don't require an iPhone or iPod. Why should I spend another $200 over the cost of my radio for these functions?

I think (and dont quote me on this) I read somewhere that Traxxas was working on a TX system that preforms all the same functions as the Iphone unit but its a self contained Traxxas unit. I can't remember for sure but I could have swore I read that on RC Car action magazines website.

I would imagine this will be the normal after the buzz of the IPhone system wears off. (That is if it ever creates any real hype) Personally I am the perfect consumer target for this product. I like flashy things and nifty items a plus to this is functionality, I've had an IPhone for years.

Other radio systems have done this for year without requiring a specialized third party device. Telemetry is nothing new, this is just Traxxas' quirky way of doing it.

Thats true, but I just meant that is what I read they were doing in response to the non-ipod folks complaining about the Xo-1 system being ipod only.
