I charged my 2 stock 3000mah NiMH's for my pede about a week ago, but havn't had the time to go out with the pede for a run. I'm wondering 1) Is it harmful to the battery to leave it charged but unused? 2) How much power does it lose as it sits?

Both batteries are brand new with only a few charges on each. I'm still pretty new to the electric side of things, so I just thought I would get some feedback from you guys. I am planning to go brushless down the road and with that will come lipo batteries....which is a whole other ball game from what I understand!

Thanks for your replies.

I would let my packs stay fully charged for up to 12 days and would still hold the power fine. I know they lose power overtime but at VERY small amounts. I would say no more than 2-3 weeks of a charged dormant pack?

Someone else will chime in here.

But will letting the packs lose power by sitting harm them in any way? Say if I were to let the packs sit for 6 weeks without running them in the truck (I try not to let that much time pass) and then putting them on the charger again?

Nothing a cycle or two wouldn't fix. I've done it over and over for years. Charge em up and not get around to driving. Over and over again until my packs have been charged 5-6 times over two months and I still haven't drove.:) I do discharge them slowly down to .9 volts per cell occaisionally though.

So nothing to really worry about then. Good to know, thanks.

I am assuming that when it comes to lipos, the story is different. Seems to me that NiMH batteries are pretty user friendly.
