I'm planning to start racing the Slash spec class but after the sticker shock of the AMB transponder price I started looking around. I found the MRT PTX unit out of the UK for $68.38 shipped to the U.S. It's got a lot of nice features and is supposed to be compatible with the AMB systems used at most tracks. I called the local track and they say it should be OK with their system. I find a lot of posts by people that are going to get and try it but they never post updates! Here's a link to the PTX site: http://www.rclaps.com/

I'd like to hear from anyone that has used this unit and if they had any problems.

I've heard they dont work on amb lap systems that dont have the latest updates in software. So who knows, you might get lucky.

It "should" be OK.

You won't know until you get it and use it.

I know someone who has one and it works fine at the local tracks we race at.

I have 2 AMB transponders I use for racing.

you dont need to buy two ....just one...i bought the the red one for 109.00 LHS...and servo extenders plugged in to my receiver so i can just plug and unplug it in each truck some Velcro on the bottom and ready to go .... just remember to switch it for each race...:p

At any given time, between ebay, rctech, and a few other forums...you can find at least a half dozen used amb transponders for around $50-75. The key is getting one that hasn't been completely worn ragged. A lot of people do not know how to mount them in a safe place so they get beat around and wires get pinched. At a local forum, I just found one for $65, I really need to get it myself.
