So I put a k5.9, a 3 speed trans and reverse in my x 4.6 all at the same time. Now before I changed anything over the truck would free roll forward easily with no resistance when it was off.. Now that I put all those new parts in its very hard to roll forward when it's off.. It's giving a ton of resistance. I power the truck on and switch the reverse unit to both positions and its the same thing. So before I start this for the first time is there something I need to fix or is that normal? I've seen a lot of savages but never one with reverse and I'm not sure it's supposed to be that way. Just don't wanna run it and strip the trans out or something. Any ideas guys?

No the mesh seems to be fine.. The resistance seems to be coming from the trans. I have no clue why

Have you taken it apart and looked at it?

Did you do the build or buy a completed unit ready to install?
I built one and also used an aluminum case. When fully tightened it would not turn properly. I kept checking before I installed the unit and needed to use shims between the 2 parts of the case in order for it to rotate freely.
That might be your problem.

I was thinking along the same lines, Rolex. Except in my case, the case was slightly warped on my SCX-10.

I bought a pre assembled one taken from an rtr XL never ran.. I had it open to instal reverse but everything looked ok. And before I installed it it turned perfectly fine. I just had the 5.9 off because I cracked the one way bearing almost in to so I had to replace that. The motor turns over fine and the trans did to until it was all on the rig.. It hasn't ran since I did all the work because of the bearing issue.. I'm at a loss for ideas here.. Should I pull the trans and try loosening it maybe?? It's the plastic case. I know I put all gears back in right they kinda only go one way. When it was apart to install reverse it all looked fine.

I would start by pulling the top off of the tranny. See if everything turns OK. Engage the reverse lever and make sure everything functions like it is supposed to. I had really bad luck wth reverse in the Savage. Since the gears are really thin I kept shelling the out.

I'll take it apart and check it out I suppose. Not sure what else to do with it.

When it's out, turn the shaft by hand. It should roll freely. If not, loosen all the screws just slightly and see if it helps. If you need to loosen them a little more and you're still having trouble, that's when you open the case to find out what's wrong.

+1. That was the idea I was trying to put across earlier. I've had it happen with several transmissions.
