can someone give me a link to a place where i can order RRP FOC? someone said that it was like 11$ but tower has it for like 25.. and its only one gear... is that right??
 
I found them to be the cheapest from RC Boyz.com

Here are the part #'s your looking for:
RR 8586 Hardened Steel FOC $21.37
RR 8525 Steel Top Shaft $31.12
RR 8529 Steel FOC Primary gear $16.13

Boca Bearings
Part #MR115-2GSB -54 (5x11x4) 5 of them $2.75each
Part #MR116-2GSB -54 (6x11x4) 1 of them $3.75each

You're gonna need (for FOC conversion)RRP8586 ($25).

If you have a first gen maxx, you'll also need RRP8529 ($20) to mate up with the spcer included in RRp8586.

Be sure to hold on to your stock output shaft and spacer too TRX4994, you'll need that for RRP8586 as well.

I actually put a little bit of #1000 Kyosho Diff Grease on the gears.
I'm not sure, I may put a little better type of grease on there, before I close it up...
 
Does anybody know if anybody out there makes a steel forward outdrive that isn't FOC? I've been goin through forward outdrives pretty easily lately and will want to upgrade pretty soon. I know Harcore makes an alluminum one but I'd rather not run steel (my primary gear) against alluminum. I would also rather keep my reverse.

That Tranny is basically bullet proof now... What's in the Savage Tranny? Plastic or Al. gears?

This thread was a long time ago but we packed a sh*tload of information into it. I mentioned somewhere about disimilar metal mesh. I'm not sure how founded that is...

Yeah, those Al. Tranny gears didn't last long at all. I was only running a Hyper 8 port in it at the time... The steel gears I have now, look as new as when I first bought em...
 
I'll report to the confessional immediately when my hybrid metals setup has failed...
 
I just dont' wanna blow $35 on an Alluminum outdrive just to have my steel primary rip it to shreds. I dont care about the weight difference I got plenty of power to get everything goin. I did some searchin and still can't find steel ones that aren't FOC. I see RR makes one in steel but it's the FOC. Hardcore makes an alluminum but I don't wanna bother with that. I'm runnin stock outdrive today. I'm pretty excited too! It's a beautiful day here and I've finally got my Twin Maxx runnin pretty good... damn this thing moves.. I never thought I'd be able to pull wheelies with the gearing that I'm runnin but this thing lifts at 1/3 - 1/2 throttle. plus.... it sounds just freakin AWESOME!
 
Yeah, there's no need for steel in reverse gears.... unless you're one of those people who just beats the poop outta there stuff doin stupid stuff.
 
stripped yet another stock outdrive yesterday. I've decided to suck it up and get rid of reverse, RRP seems to be the only manufacturer making a steel forward outdrive gear, but it's only for FOC. I'm curious though... what ALL exactly will I end up taking out of the tranny?
 
OOPS, sorry. I guess I missed those, hehe :). Looks good. I just orderedmy FOC from Tower, I should be able to actually get to half throttle now!
