There is a reason why some people in the aftermath of Katrina were rescuing, and others having to be rescued. I was prepared. My family was setup with several emergency power sources in the form of generators, (yes a backup to a backup generator) as well as 12v battery banks with a 110v converter. As soon as they were set, i dedicated all my time (before i was in law enforcement) and provisions (gasoline, boat, vehicles) to rescuing the dumbasses that were NOT prepared. So yea, i laugh at natural "disasters" and the people who arent prepared for them, while i am saving their asses.

During the Midwest Flood of '93, I was doing radio support for the rescue workers. My home was damaged, but I didn't lose everything like most of my neighbors.

Well being a public servant (law enforcement) I'm a little surprised by your reply. I though people joined the force to help other, and hold a certain standard regardless of peoples shortcomings, I guess I was wrong with that assumption :\

Right new we're in the midst of an incredible downpour with bb sized hail. It's raining so hard I can't see my car less than 75 feet away. My power backup for the computer is clicking, so we might be losing all power soon.

The point I was trying to make is only one person sounded concerned about his safety, every other post was a joke about his predicament, and your comment to me about "thanks for playing" is what kind of set me off. Maybe it's a Canadian thing that I would inquire about his well being before I started popping off jokes, If I'm guilty of that, so be it.

Most of those giving humorous replies have been thorough the warnings and worse. Right now I'm currently under a flash-flood warning and my battery back-up on the computer and AV system are both clicking and beeping with power surges from lightning.

And yes, Rolex, I'm wearing a tin-foil hat when I go outside!

Certainly NOT a joke about his predicament, but again, and maybe it's an American thing, we make light of anything as a way to get us through tough situations. Why do you think so many comedians are from here, and I can only think of ONE from Russia and he MOVED here.
The situation as well as the explanations are over and so is the storm here. It's once again light outside and only the flooding remains.
So, with everything now over I think we can put this to rest.

Whether to reply upon the weather

What a variety of well wishers and nay sayers...

In no particular order...
Yeah, boo, yay, nah, oh ok, eh get out... are you kidding, Ah thanks, ...!!

That was a scary afternoon, from the first warning on the radio, to the final rain drop which fell. It was difficult to not look out a window, frequently.
I know they always say to stay well back, but I didn't want to be blindsided or sucker punched.
Anyway, it blew over and around but never built up enough energy to cause any damage or real alarm. The big tornadoe that tore its way through Edmonton on that memorable "Black Day In July" over a decade ago, didn't come with a dangerous weather alert. We only saw it coming from a distance, and then boom, it was swirling near, & upon us.

I doubt I would ever actually laugh at anyones circumstance,
Not even if self induced... not sure why I said that.??

Rolex, get yourself some candles, a strong flashlight, a battery operated transister AM/FM radio and a good book.
Sit back in your favorite rocking chair... put your trifocals on and immerse yourself, with your best tunes playing.

I've never held back from helping someone, but you can't help but laugh at the absurdity of some people during a time of emergency. One of the worst natural disasters in America's history was New Orleans, La during hurricane Katrina. We knew the hurricane was coming. New Orleans was on a MANDATORY EVACUATION with shelters setup all over Louisiana, with FREE transportation to individuals who needed it. What did people do? NOTHING! They sat around, waited for the power to go off, then ran around looting stores for TV's and other crap. THEN when they realized, WHOOPS! I'm an F'n idiot and should have left when we were told to, Concerned civilians such as myself (a year before I joined the police department) who took care of business beforehand grabbed our truck keys, hitched up our boats, and went to New Orleans to join in the rescue effort while dipshits took shots at us all day. I spent almost a week covered in human poop from backed up sewer lines, and risked my life to save people who didnt care whether i lived or died. You can think whatever the hell you want about my mentality of "helping people" but i know where i stand.


In south louisiana, we LIVE under permanent flood warnings. Where yall have Spring, summer, fall, winter, we have Spring, Hurricane, fall, winter. Yes...... hurricane is a season here. The TV pops up several times a week with Tornado, Severe Thunder, Tropical Storm, Hurricane, and Hail emergency alerts, So things are a little (apparently poop ton) more lax around here. So allow me to amend my statement, I dont laugh at people during natural disasters, I laugh at STUPIDITY.

I didn't want to get the armadillo hat wet. It smells funny when it's wet. Kind of like the tuba in the mod's lounge after a party. :

Now I wear THIS one. It has no problem getting wet. Even seems to prefer it.

I didn't want to get involved but i do have to agree with alpine on this one. I helped with the disaster in New Orleans in 2005, i was a on the force only about 3.5 years. I've never seen such disaster, it was no joke at that time, it was all about helping people, pulling dead bodies out of home's, saving anything that had life (dogs, cats, pets, and so on). Covered in sewer crap from head to foot, hungry, beat down and in complete shock from what i was seeing, no radio to call for help, no car to drive in, no cell phone that worked. And what do you think happens. I GET SHOOT AT, imagine that, here i get an ass full of shoots to protect me from all the possible diseases, i go all the way to New Orleans to help people i don't know, and i get shoot at not from one but from a few, some protecting ther homes ehats was left of them others, well just because and mind you I'm I'm uniform screaming out POLICE stop shooting and hear someone say F the police. I know whta alpine is taking about I've been there....

I only have one question, if very bad, dangerous, threatening weather is approaching, why would posting a help message on a rc forum be on your mind. I would think i would call the local police, a friend, neighbor, family member, someone other than this place? Am i missing something?
