I need to tune my engine now that I finally gotmy truck back together and running. However, it was about 20 degrees out today. Is that too cold? I figure that it would cool the motor way too much to get a true reading with my temp guage or should the motor be tuned to the temp outside on bash day?

Almost everytime you take your Rc out your going to have to do some tuning. So youll be fine running it in them temps. Theres alot of people (including myself) that bash year round.

When you tune a nitro motor in the cold you need something to block the cooling head or else you will kill the piston and sleeve from running too lean. Air is denser when it is cool so you need more fuel but by not blocking the cooling it will never get to temp. So you lean it out more to get the temps up and then it is too lean.

hmm it was 18 degrees yesterday and well just tweaked i to the rich side little bit.. ran like a champ. all day..

but no feeling in my hands .. thats about all lol..

It's in the 20's right now...that means it's time to work on the trucks which keep my butt in out of the cold lol Anyways, I've ran my truck in the cold before and sometimes it's easy to tune while other times I can't get it to save my life. Keep in mind plastic parts and cold weather don't mix well.

Yeah, 20 degree air + Maxx at 25 mph + metal sign post= broken truck. Found that out yesterday.

I have a hard time keeping my tune when it's below 45 or so. It's always too rich or lean depending on what your doing. If you drive slowly, it overheats. If you drive fast, the temps drop so much that it almost stalls out. So, I haven't bashed since december... stupid winter!

I bash all winter. I have a cut sock I use on my cooling head to block the airflow and I have no problems with tuning untill it gets below about 15 degrees.

I tried that... didn't help much. I tried a lot of things. All of which gave me erratic temp spikes and a engine that runs poorly. I think I'll just wait... Or, buy a new SH/STS 28 for my savage, set the engine on a shelf and go drive my OS 21 RG into the ground while I wait for warmer weather...
