Todays run (Crime Fighter tires & OS#8 plug feedback).

Took a week off from running. Last weekend was to be my first race, but because of engine troubles, it was a wash. I took the week and did a fair share of research, mainly on glow plugs and a little on tires. 90% of my searching was right here in the forums.
Anyways, the Crime Figther tires rock ! On a track that is usually very loose and dusty they hooked up great. I ran hard and the wear was minimal. As far as the new plug goes, the OS8 is now my plug of choice. What a difference the right plug makes. The temps were so consistent (248/full tank to 260/empty tank), that I broke out my back-up temp gun just to make sure. Something I did notice. The glow plug wasn't the hottest point when checked with my gun. The surrounding area was slightly higher. Basically where the four head screws are located, they were a little hotter than dead center on the plug. Never noticed this before with other plugs. Regardless, the OS8 was flawless all day. The only casualty was a loose banjo fitting (see my post about that in the nitro engine forum). Thanks to those of you that recommended the Crime Fighters and the OS8's.

Wait til we get a chance to bash sometime and you'll see a few dozen new OS #8's in my parts box waiting to be used. As far as the crime fighters I think Error has a set, but I can't remember for sure.

Forgot to mention this in the post but I had problems (again) with my Dynamite failsafe. I thought I had it fixed when I re-set it last night but it did it again today. For some reason the buggy would lose the signal but get this......just the throttle/brake signal. Steering was fine. Anyways, I removed the failsafe and finished the day out with not problems. I still want a failsafe but need recommendations on either the OFNA or the Venom. Fire Away !!!

I'll give you my 2 cents, FORGET THE FAILSAFE! Use fresh batteries every bash and make sure someone else is not using your freq and you should be fine. In the event you lose power a throttle return spring works wonders.

I predominantly use the Venoms, however MPI and OFNA also work very well. I have a few of each. I'm not even goig to get into the debate of whether or not to use one. These are my choices and I'm sticking to it.

Congrats on the tires!!!!!! Glad youfound something to hook up on that track.

As for temps around the glo plug, I would always check the surrounding aread moreso. Seems you caught that this last race you ran. Good choice.

As for plugs, you are right. The OS #8 is an awesome plug. Very reliable. I just picked up a few Odonnle 99's to test them out. Ill let you nkow.

I'm also of the view that a failsafe is unneccessary. Set up your radio gear well, and run fresh batteries and make sure all connections are secured, and you will never need an FS. It helps to have good radio gear too, but most radio gear is great these days.

I set up the built in failsafe with my radio when I got it since it is just a function of the reciever, I use it because its there, but i've survived fine for years without running one.

as for the tempgun thing, I noticed that too. I didn't try the screw area, but I shoot for the side of the engine case, just below the head and I seem to get higher readings there, probably closer to the truth. One things for sure, pointing straight at the glowplug always gets the lowest reading (I got 10-20F lower than on the side) so its probably not a very good indication.
