ok i got my truck running ok some guy in the parking lot did. but now it runs and everytime i take off to drive it it stalls right away. it will move a half inch and stall is it to lean or to rich. when i have my throttle on my radio full throttle in the carb should the slide be visible.
 
If it bogs down then ur too rich. To be sure can u be more specific on how it sounds before stalling
 
i take off and it just cuts right out it doesn't have time to bog out it takes a second.
 
If it goes and just stalls no change in sound try richening your lsn. I did that and it cleared things right up.
 
Sounds like it's running too lean. Richen the needle an 8th of a turn at a time.
 
What engine is this?

From what it sounds like, your engine is too lean on the LSN.

Without knowing which engine, I can't tell you specific factory presets to return to, but I would start there. Once you have the engine running, then you can tune it for performance.
 
to richen or lean the enghine should i use my master needle. its a hyper 7 .21
 
Is this the Hyper .21 with the black cooling head?

is the master needle the needle sticking out of the carb its sticking straight up and its in a gold pipe. cuz thats what my manual says.
 
IF that is what your manual says, then it stands to reason that the Master Needle is that particular needle.

On the carb, the needle sticking almost straight up (It looks like it is cased in brass) is often referred to as the High Speed Needle (HSN). That is the Master Needle.

Where the throttle arm connects to the carb barrel there is a screw that is facing out of the carb barrel. This is referred to as the Low Speed Needle (LSN)

On this particular engine, there is a Mid Range Needle (MRN). That one is also a brass looking screw. It is opposite the LSN and should not be messed with. If it does not look flush with the surrounding silver fitting, then it might need to be reset.

The rest of the information, with respect to needle settings, should be in your instructions manual (which you can download from the link I provided should your copy be missing a second page or be worn beyond legibility.)
 
Master needle is the High speed needle (HSN).
When the engine is at Idle, you should see oil coming out of the exhaust tip.
Just a spitting type of oil. thats where you want it for break in.
You have to turn the HSN out (counter clockwise), a little bit at a time until you see the oil spitting slightly. Like 1/8 of a turn at a time.
Do what Skymax said, and go to factory setting first.
If that doesn't work, do what I suggested.

Let bygones be bygones.
To make it idle and run to half throttle, that's the LSN. For full throttle, that's the HSN. When it idles and moves out nicely, your LSN is fine. It it moves out but either cuts out or bogs, that's the HSN.

Adjust your LSN and idle screw till it idles well and will run up to half throttle. (get it to running temp before you finalize any settings) When it idles properly, throttle it to half and see if it stalls or bogs down. If it stalls, it's too lean. If it bogs, it's too rich.
Now go to full throttle. This is when you adjust your HSN. Same thing. If it bogs, it's too rich, stalls, it's too lean.
When it seems to be running good, pinch the fuel line. It should speed up slightly and then stall within 3 - 4 seconds. If it stops quickly, your LSN is too lean. If it takes longer, the LSN is too rich.
Drive it for a while and then take a temp check to make sure it's at the proper temp. If it's too hot, richen the HSN.
You will have to make small adjustments on the HSN almost daily to compensate for outside temperature and humidity.

By the way, the factory settings are for break in, or a starting point if you really messed things up. Once an engine is broken in, don't expect it to run right by going to those settings.
 
You can lean or richen both needles.
I suggest that you read the info on the link that Sky posted.
It contains all the info needed. It also has pictures. Read, Look, Read,Look, then read it again. I'm not trying to belittle you. Reading things several times will make it more clear.

Turning the needle / s clockwise will lean the mixture and counter clockwise will richen it

Yes...like the faucet for a garden hose. Turn it counter clockwise, more water, or fuel...richer. Turn it clockwise and you are closing it down....less water, or less fuel...leaner.
You need it to run rich during the break in. If you are trying to get good responsive performance out of it now, it won't last long.
Follow the break in procedure in your manual. Take your time. Don't be looking for race response for a while.
 
ok thanks i understand now. but another question when i look into the carb should i be able to see the slide when i pull on my radio and make it go full throttle . like i can see my slide at full throttle should i be able to or no.
