i figure we could start a list of tire/wheel combinations that members have used with success or failure...

Switch tires and Epic beadlocks: i didn't like them. I kept blowing the bead when i ran my 2s lipos.
 
I'm the same with the beadlocks.... except mine were axial beadlock rims with proline dirtworks tires. Look great, but throw the bead every time. I have found honestly, that the stock rims and tires work best with a brushless slash.
 
The proline setup... Epic Beads and Switch tires works ok for me and my slash.... I am not running lipo though. Just 4700 7 cell NiMh unmatched with the stock motor. Great grip compared to stock wheel tire setup from Traxxas.
 
I'm still using the stockers.

When it's time for new shoes, I will be gluing the bead to the rim before attaching the bead lock ring. Unless the bead is keyed into the rim and ring like on a Baja, I just don't trust it and never will.

I did the same thing with the beadlocks on my Emaxx BL project. I had to glue the beads in order to get them to stop popping out. I will just glue the bead if I ever make the jump to a BL setup. Or just go back to the stockers... they are not that bad.
 
I ran a set of Maximizer bead locks on my old Savage once. It took about 15 seconds to blow out. Of course the tire looked like a pizza cutter when it did it.

I have had only 1 minor pop out on my my Baja bead locks and it did not prevent me from continuing the race. The rubber bead is shaped to fit into slots in the rim and rings. Very tough to pull one out and usually a screw loosening in the ring is the culprit.
 
Still using stock tires on my truck, but it's due to the spec class rules. I honestly like how they work on the tracks I run on, but I've seen a few people reverse the direction on the rear tires for a little more aggressive bite during acceleration. I've not tried it yet, and they were quick to switch back to the standard direction.

In the pro class the guys are cutting their treads with a dremel for more side bite. It really depends on your track conditions, look at what tires the experienced racers are using and see if there is anything you can do with the stock treads to mimic that pattern. If you've given up on the stock tires, it beats throwing them away for something new. I'm getting ready to order new tires, when I do I will try to put something together on how to do it. Honestly, I've never done it so I have no clue how well that would go. I may consult with the pro level drivers at my track and see what they say.

I'd say the stock motors won't throw the beads like brushless. BTW sorry if this has been answered already. I just registered.
 
Any one using the bowties? I'm not liking my switches too much.
 
Took the dremel to my stock Traxxas Slash tires because my track is very slick (hard packed and light dust) so more side bite is needed to keep traction in the corners. Most of the racers in the pro spec class are cutting their tires, which is allowed at the track under pro class rules. I must say I was quite surprised and satisfied with the results. I'm running Steve King's setup, and I must say I was quite impressed with the difference. Before you guys throw them away, give this a shot.

Overall it's not difficult to do, but does require a dremel, patience, and a steady hand. More details to come.

Not a bad idea, definatly worth a try imo. thanks for the tip.
 
I'm looking for something that holds up great on hard packed dirt that has a this layer of dust/sand on it, wich is super slick, any suggestions? Also thinking of trying some 8 shooters.
 
For which vehicle? Slash I assume? If so, I have similar track conditions and the stock tires cut seem to work well, that or possibly try the new Proline Bowties for the Slash.
 
ya for the slash. I guess i better go get a dremel then lol, you did just the rears right?
 
So far, but will need to do the fronts as it pushes into the corner now. No more rear-end sliding out. Try the rears first, then do the fronts if you're pushing too much.
 
I'm still using stockers but looking for a change.
