I was looking on the net for some Savage info and I stumbled upon this:

http://www.hpiracing.com/graphics/instr/engines/15250.pdf
This is for the K5.9 Pull start. Page three has the setting for the carb.

http://www.hpiracing.com/manuals/pdf/104246.pdf
This is the manual for the Savage XL which comes with the K5.9. Page 19 has the setting for the carb.

Am I missing something here? How can the same company put out literature for the same engine but yet be off a full turn on the carb adjustment after break in? It's also on the HSN which to me is the most important of them all to say the least. I know these settings really don't apply to veterans of the hobby such as myself and others but what about the new guy that picks up one of these used? If I put my HSN 2 and 1/2 turns in that engine might be toast. I'm running 1 and 1/4 turn in from the groove and I'm around 230 or so with the front window cut open. Is there anything that we can do to help manufactureres put out consistant literature for their engines? We all know starting out in the hobby can be hard but when you have inconsistant directions to start with, it can turn into a nightmare. Maybe thats why some people think nitro is a dying breed?

That is a good point.Form what I've read in these forums, running in a engine on the block at a sloppy rich setting is far out dated so why do the manufactors recomend it?From my experiance and please note I'm refering to planes, I got much beter performance form my nitros than my lekkys but thats only cause I knew what I knew what I was doing.I can completly understand why a new guy would dump a nitro in the trash and go for lekky after he followed the instructions to the letter and got no where. Please manufactors get it right.

Because those are only for reference base settings. I have never had two engines end up in the exact same place settings wise because every engine is different and there are too many variables involved. Temp, humidity, elevation, barometric pressure....weight of the vehicle....cooling air flow...list goes on. So to documents for after break-in settings being different? Ehhh not an issue.

This is a perfect example of what we are seeing from most manufacturers these days... Poor quality control. Where is the proof reading?!?! Where is the equip. tests and check outs?!?! Even some of the race rollers I have assembled have had improper directions or poorly assemble products. The thing is to "Move the boxes." The new guys and even some veteran racers are walking away from Nitro all the time because of these issues. The day of "Walking the Walk" is about gone. A good story or convincing dialogue is sufficient to move the boxes out the door.
