I kind of did the same thing. I have a 21 maxx that every time I take it out, I destroy something. Usually it's not something that broke from wear and tear, it's normally from a bad wreck.
The difference is that I rarely drive it anymore because I got a 2.5 maxx and did some major surgery to it to make it cheaper to maintian. I converted it to 2 wheel drive, locked the rear diff, put a orion wasp 18 on it, OFNA buggy tank, roll bar, cvd's and savage tires. Just today I bought a new radio system since I had a nasty glitch and half the reason I'm not driving the 21 maxx is due to the fact that it has too much power. I'm just not a good enough driver to handle it. So, I bought 2 mx3 radios today and installed them. I still only put a couple tanks through the 21 maxx, but nothing was broken. I adjusted the endpoint on my throttle servo to be about 60% and I toned down the steering as well.
After a couple tanks in it, I put about 1.5 quarts through the 18 maxx... stuff broke

. I've had a problem shock on it since I've gotten it, keeps blowing out and my rear diff finally (after 3 gallons) started chattering at me. So, I fixed those 2 things and I'll be back at it tomorrow.
It may not be entirely cheap, but it's definatly cheaper.
