About 1 month or so ago I ordered some Response tires for my Revo from my LHS. Last week they called to say they finally came in but it was the day before I was leaving for a 9 day trip. I told them I couldn't make it in but I offered to pay for them over the phone for them to hold on to them until I got back. They said no they would just put them out and let me know when they got more in. It pisses me off cause I had the opportunity to get them elsewhere and I waited for them. I offered pay for them and they said no, no I have to wait again or find them somewhere else. What would you guys do, I'm really limited on what's here for LHS.

Id go and get them from somewhere else. And Id be sure to mention that ya did next time ya went in there. Thats total Bs. they couldnt hold them for 9 days?? Jerks..

I whould go in there and tell them thoese 50$ tires just lost them all of there biusness from you

Id wait and let a few more people respond...Print it out...Take it up there and show them this thread.

If I were their customer...I wouldnt be anymore unless they make things right with you.

I would make a point of speaking to the owner. He should know that his employees are not customer friendly. You offered to pay for them. What more could they ask?
If it was the owner who refused to hold them even if the parts were paid for, I wouldn't do business with him again.
Simple customer courtesy. Be willing to satisfy the customer, and you'll get his business.

I would have a talk with the owner, just as Rolex said. If anything, the next time you order, pay for it first or put a downpayment on it. At my LHS, everyone gets stuff they ordered put aside with their name on it, even new guys to the store. Nothing is ever sold if it has been ordered, even if it's just tires or a bottle of CA.

What they did is just bad for customer relations.

I guess we (my brother and I) are one of the lucky ones with an LHS that still values their customers for repeat business instead of trying to make the quick sale. If you guys want, my LHS will take orders from out of state (NYC). PM me and I'll give you the info. BTW, they will beat tower's prices without even trying. Even more if you tell them I sent ya. Let me know.

Jetmech I would definately let the owner know how much this has irritated you....point out hte fact you waited to deal w/ them and that they screwed you.....if he says where are you going to shop? www.whatever LHS has a website that's not you.com cause if they are going to make you wait longer why shouldn't you go online and wait for them to send it right ot your door.....I'm big on supporting LHS but if they don't support you then screw em......like Zandor said that 50 dollar sale may have lost them a good customer.....

I agree that was pretty lame of the LHS, but you also got to look at it from their view.
They proabably have tons of people requesting stuff up there who never come back to get it. Once you invest money in something (like ordering parts) you get a little sensitive to people wanting to come back and get them later.
Are you a regular customer?? If you are, then I think they should have held them for you. If not, cut them just a little slack... they probably get burned everyday.

honestly it shouldnt have mattered whether or not he is or isnt a regular customer ,he offered to pay for the tires before leaving and they said not they wil be here and then he goes back and they are sold,,not good business practices ,like all have aid contact thje owner and speak directly to him about it and it was he that sold your parts the he will be SOL for the next purchase and go else where to get your parts even if it on-line ,
my lhs only orders once a week and sometime if he doesn't have a good order it will be 2 weeks before he orders unless i agree to pay the shipping for the items i want right away, horseshit i will and have bought off line and got my items quicker and paid cheaper shipping ,not a way to run a shop
but none the less that would be the last time i visit that store and i would be sure to let my friends know about the way conduct business
just my :2cents:

btw: they shouldnt have (put them out) what they should have done was put them back for you and held them esp after offering to pay for them

I have been here before but here's the other side.

My example is a plane I was going to buy from a guy. Told him on a Thursday I'd be in Tuesday with the $$$, I showed up after work Tuesday and the plane was gone. Said someone came in and offered him cash for it and he was more than happy to take it. Pissed me off too - but not in the way you'd think.

If it were YOUR money, you'd do the same thing. Every time you ask someone to order something for you, they are taking money out of their pocket in hopes of selling it. If it doesn't sell, the owner is stuck with something on his shelf that may or may not sell. This may not seem like a big deal but it adds up.

Think about the guy that bought them: "What do you mean you won't sell them to me? THEY'RE RIGHT THERE, I can SEE them, I have the money, HERE TAKE IT!" What would you do?

Where this LHS owner screwed up - he should have these in stock. The Revo's a hot item, if there ar any of them in the area you should have tires for it in stock.

This is why I shy away from many LHS's, there's so many things going on with the owners that I just don't have time for their problems, their issues.

/agree -

I really like the idea of printing off this thread and having a talk with the owner/manager. Let them know that there are several other places you can do business, like Tower. I prefer supporting my LHS when I can, and I give them every oppurtunity to get my business before I buy from Tower. If they can come close to the price I'd get at Tower, I buy from them. When they choose to not be willing to work with me, I let them know what I spent at tower the next time I'm in there.

I guess spending $1000 isnt enough to make me an "important" customer, so I'll go where the price is best.

They wouldn't be getting burned if the parts were already paid for. Even if they are never picked up, they got their money. There's always a limit on how long they are willing to hold parts. 30 days, 90, whatever. Making the sale is what's important. Making the customer happy is key to a good business.

if our lhs did that i would not go back to them.... i would buy eles where i ahve dont it before.... over about the same thing ...imo dont go back

my LHS has orders come in on tuesday and friday it really seems like they don't carry anything for my truck HPI nMT even tho its old but they will have it there in at most 3 days and since I live in IL I pay tax on tower's orders and they are generally better than tower's prices. they do however hold things with your name and # on them and have called me every time my order has come in and the parts have never been more than $20 worth of stuff. I think they would treat me the same if I was spending 5, 50 or 500 dollars thats why I ALWAYS go back. what your LHS did was total BS, ESPECIALLY after you offered to pay, if you would have not done this I could kind of understand but after this what they did was totally unacceptable. hope that they try and make it up to you so you will still have a place to go thats near by

When I first moved here, I found 2 hobby shops that dealt with nitro Planes and helis. One would make me pay in advance for parts they normally carried in stock, but were out of, and a week later I would have to call them to see if they were in.
The other hobby shop ordered anything I wanted, would NOT take an advance payment even if it was not a stock item, and called ME when it came in.
The first store I never went back to. The second one got a dedicated customer who spent a small fortune.

Thanks for the replies, all good advice. I guess I'm just pretty pissed cause they are pretty much the only game in town that has a good amount of stock on hand if you need it now, plus they host the parking lot races which is about all there is for on-road around here. It burns me is you try to support the LHS and they dump on you. Yeah I'm in there pretty regularly, and I even offered to pay in advance of them ordering for the fact that they do order crap for people and then get stuck with it. I ended up finding the Crowd Pleazer body I've them about a dozen times in Dallas when I was there last week and bought it, along with the Pro-line single servo alloy steering arm for the Revo. So in my adventures I'll find my new treads elsewhere. Trust me, they'll get very minimal business from me from here out and that's only if I'm in some sort of desperate situation. I'm probably going to copy this thread out and send it to the owner. They're a national franchise.
