This truck has taken about 10 months in my spare time and considering I don't have, or didn't have much, if any machining experience, that's not too shabby.

Jack, here's some info for ya about Rudy Kouhoupt. Two of his books are The shop wisdom of Rudy Kouhoupt vol. 2 and 3, ISBN #s 0-941653-64-1 and 0-941653-23-4. I hope this helps, though I have no idea where dad got these from.

i just did a search for those books, and they are rare. Do a search for kouhoupt, there are a lot of links to rudy's work.

After doing a search on "Kouhoupt" and going to the website, I didn't recognize the name, but, I've seen his work before. Incredible(!), comes to mind.

I've put 2 tanks thru it and twisted the rear CV's, but, they had weak spots in them and I pretty much expected them to twist.

These are the latest pix after the truck was completely stripped down, polished and sent out for anodizing.

The Dodge body was scrapped in favor a body that is more appropriate. Too bad, 'cuz I really like DODGE!

sorry about that. pps: del and everyone else at the store knows me as mo. maybe you can help me with my lates t project. a tmaxx that can beat a schumcher menace .21 in a race for top speed (or at least a faster 0-60 time). it will be powered by a pro .70 bx engine as well. or maybe a super charged .27 :\ . i hope to meet up with you some time at the at the store so you can see my work in progress and i have wanted to see the pie wagon in person ever since this thread started. p.s. as an employee it is my job to advertise for the store :thumbsup:

Is this the machine you have at home to do the metal work?

2 grand is actually not a bad price... considering you can prolly machine everything you need for the house/car and rc stuff.

Hmm... i think i need to invite one of those machines in my basement one time.... maybe it would like it so much that it would actually stay with me.

That's the one that I have. Some contend that it doesn't have the accuracy to "make parts for NASA", but, who's going to make parts for NASA? It does, however, have the accuracy to do most anything else! Largely, it's up to the operator as to it's accuracy. I bought mine for $300 less that what is advertised, plus, I bought the Kennedy bench for it. I'm not trying to sell you on a Smithy, there are others out there, such as, Grizzley and ShopTask . All are capable machines. See what kind of deal you can strike up via the phone with each of these.
All of these machines are fine for the home hobbyist and you can do pretty much anything on them! You can't beat 'em for RC or things of this nature. And yes, you can even mill heads on all three...and anything else, space & size permitting.
As for the ShopTask, the Bridgemill wasn't out yet or I would have gotten that one..........and PAINTED IT A DIFFERENT COLOR!! Other than that, it's a nice machine!
The Grizzley, on the other hand, has enough of a swing to cut brake rotors!

One other thing: customer support. Smithy, by far, has the best customer support, followed by Grizzley, the ShopTask. This isn't to say that the other 2 suck, just that Smithy has the best customer service, hands down!

StrechM, I don't think it would survive being dropped of a cliff, tho, the front & rear-ends are designed to "break-away" should something like that happen. Either way it'll be a mess!
