200 miles here is nothing. I drove over 600 miles just to pick ip a set of wheels and tires for my Mustang once. But 1/3 of the way there we decided to take a sight seeing detour that took us about 500 miles out of our way 😝

Understood, but if I went to the Southern tip of the UK and drove North for just over 600 miles I would be at risk of falling off at the top!
And technically I would have passed through two countries (some say three!) in doing this.

Guernsey Island, a dependency of British Crown, but not a part of the UK is an island of 24 sq miles. From memory the speed limit on the island is 30mph and yet I have never seen so many high performance sports cars in one place.

Yeah, HUGE OG Top Gear fan. Jeremy Clarkson is my gearhead hero, and an all around great guy. I've watched everything he has ever done, and I still am watching The Grand Tour and Clarkson's Farm (freakin' love that show!). So I've become fairly familiar with a bit of your dilemmas over there, which is why I made the jab about it being a tiny island 😉

I've seen how people have a hard time finding a place to run their RC's over there too 🙁

Yes finding some where to make a noise or cause a fuss with a model plane is becoming very challenging.

Operating Model boats is a big problem finding weed free lakes with decent access and don’t mention IC power.

I was lucky as a teenager because we had a disused airport just a couple of miles from our home, I learned to fly control line and RC planes there. They have built a hospital and leisure centre on the corner of the site with houses creeping in at the other, slowly taking over the old runway and they don’t like us flying planes anymore.

When I resurrect my electric glider I'll be having that problem, although there's a field close by which looks promising.
I've also got a nature reserve quite near with several pools and loads of canals, but all of them except for one are covered in weed!

Irrespective of whether a lake is suitable for model boats or not, if I fly my model planes or wack a golf ball for that matter, both with find water!
This is just how it is.

Finally took the glider out today and found the ground a bit sooner than expected. Serves me right for trying to fly in 15mph wind

Sorry for being late, but welcome to the forum! It is amazing that you had that experience with your son! I'm only 15 now, but when I'm old enough to have kids, I am definitely getting them hooked on RC! Maybe dirtbikes and stuff too you never know. It sucks that your plane crashed though.

Not been able to get him out since but I'll keep trying!
It's my flying which sucks but fixed it up and it's probably stronger now than before (it'll need to be!)

The first time I took my slope soarer out, I didn’t fix the pack of 4 AA cells in the nose, I thought a bit of foam packing would do, one rough landing (crash) and the battery pack came flying out through the nose! Duh.

Patched it up and try again.
