Start by finding the right manual.
I bought the factory service manuals for my Envoy.
Now, if the dealer can mook it up, so can I.

Your info IS out there!
Have you joined an S10 forum yet?

Have you figured out which code readers DO read your truck???

Have you found the correct manuals yet?

Check craigslist and ebay too. I found my manuals on CL and bought them for under $100 for the set.
Maybe someone is selling the exact code reader that you need... cheap too. 😉

I know this isn't super easy but its not as difficult as all this either. 😎👍😁
I've joined a couple S10 forums, but no one is ever active on them.

No that wont work, because OBD 1 and obd2 scanners use different communication protocols and data formats than what the OBD1.5 system employs
Can you find me some documentation on that?
I thought so at first too. But that paperclip trick is an OBD1 trick all day and its supposed to be shooting obd1 codes...
So IF I'm correct,, its an OBD1 system with OBD2 port which can be stepped back to IBD1 with an adapter.

I am guessing the obd2 port was installed to pass EPA testing which required all cars to use a standardized obd2 port by 1994,5,6ish
I might be wrong but that is 100% a GM maneuver.

Try gmtnation.com

They are gm truck ppl. Mostly NOT S10 ppl but if you ask nicely, I'll bet you a shiny nickle someone has the answers you are looking for.

It’s AI, but it’s all I could find. But I see how it could potentially work.

An adapter from obd2 out of truck to obd1 into an obd1 capable scan tool is what is needed.

AI hasn't been working on cars for as long as I have. 😉🤣
I tried to find a cable that does that, and they are all the wrong iterations with the obd1 port being plugged into an obd2 scanner.

Oh! I get it now! It has the same format as a obd1, but uses an OBD 2 port. Gotcha. Now since it’s an OBD1, you have to find a vehicle specific one, because the scanners aren’t built to read a variety of different manufacturer codes. Also here is The Blazer forum, specifically made for anything Chevy blazer.

I think this is correct. 😎👍

Facebook or reddit is where it's at. Not many forums are active alot these days.

Sure, lots of stuff are on forums, but look up how old the threads are when you try to use a forum. Like the blazer forum that was linked. Hence why we get a lot of thread revivals on here lol.

S10's are older so not as many owners now... thats why I suggested GMTNation. Pretty good ppl over there.

True. I was just telling about forums in general not any specific ones. It's just a lot of people go towards social media bc it's easier to post, use and get an awnser super quickly. GMTNation has 20k lifetime members since 2010 I think they built the site, when a GMT FB group I'm in has 106k members that was created a 3 years ago. The forum life kinda bugged down a bit but there's still people like us that are here. And also to be completely fair, lots of forums are a older audience while FB groups or social media has more new people into the group of whatever sub or group they're joining, ect. Not saying forums are bad but it's just that times are changing. Next everyone will ask AI for anything/everything lol.

I think that's correct! Would my best bet be going to a dealership?

Yeah as long as they don’t make you pay an arm and a leg. They have the GM Tech 2 port scanner that can scan it, but if you wanna buy it, it’ll cost 300 dollars
hopefully they have it!
