Springs

Got some Team Associated SC10 4x4 springs to test fit on ET410/SCT410SL's shocks.

Stock front springs (4 lb.) are 50mm in length where as the SC10 4x4 front springs are 63mm. Team Associated springs were a perfect fit. On paper, the new springs are a tad bit softer (3.9 lb.) which is what I was after. Maybe I'll order the 3.5 lb. springs to play with. In any case, I'm banking on the new springs breaking-in a bit, but still happy with the ET410's stance:

Maybe the 3.5lb springs would set you right, and allow a bit of adjustability. As you're sitting, you have no pre-load adjustment other than positive.

I set all my 4wd RC's front ride heights to "bones level", and my 2wd platform's front ride heights are set to imaginary drive shafts, of course,... "arms level". After springs settle/get broken-in, I'm almost positive my ET410's front end will drop a millimeter or two.

If I were running on a smoother higher grip track, I would not be putting myself through this front end dilemma. Originally, I was only worried about fixing the ET410's rear end springs. I overlooked the Associated SC10 4x4 platform during my spring search. It slipped my mind that platform uses 13mm bore shocks. After finding out those springs had the right inside diameter, seeing some springs for sale... I just grabbed some fronts for the heck of it.

Those 3.5 lb. springs you speak of... two sets are already on their way to my front door 😁.

Rear Springs
Anybody who runs an ET410 with stock springs, and runs a low ride height, they'll usually comment on the adjustment collar/spring gap at full droop issue.

Replies are always... "This is normal. Just run it." 😬 😜:yawn: Common fix is to zip tie the springs to the perches so the springs won't come off the perches.

I think other than initial build, I've used the softer Tekno rear green springs from day one (stock ones are yellow).

I never had an issue with rear green springs (like mentioned in above post), but they are right on that edge of being too short.

SC10 4x4 rear springs on the rear of the ET410 are a perfect alternative. Both brands have 18mm inside diameter.
ET410 rear spring on the left and Associated's 76mm White 2.5 lb. spring is on the right....

A normal person who is a "basher" probably don't care about such stuff. I love off-road RCs. Messing around with suspensions and making shocks perform as best they can for my backyard track... I think it relaxes me.

....I went ahead and put on an aluminum servo horn, because the more I thought about it, I didn't want to hear, "I told ya so." :naughty:

Servo gears had a great five year run.

With new gearset installed, ready for the next five years :celebrate: This is exactly why I always suggest that a person buys good/great servos that have gearsets available for purchase. If you're the type that likes to toss cheap budget servos out as they fail... you do you.

Thanks for the photos. That settles it. I will still wonder how I can put a truggy body on my sct just for experimental purposes
You would have to use a body that is not tapered in the back, and come up with creative extension gameplan, or possibly chop down a 1/8 truggy body (ET48.3?). The ET48.3 stock bodies are about the narrowest truggy body that I know of. You would have to find someone that has one for better guestimintation purposes :) .

Kingpin Shoulder Screws

I got so excited to have an hour of play time after work, I skipped pre-run inspection. I now remember I was going to take care of this after the last time I ran the mini truggy (last year :p).

Post run inspection led me to this...

It's just one of those things that a person learns to check every so often on this mini truggy... the kingpin shoulder screws.

Even though they are "secured" with set screws that sit in the kingpin's groove; the pounding they take... they manage to work themselves loose, I guess.

Six Years of Wear & Tear

It's been brought to my attention that I should look at the spindles (in post above) as a consumable item. That's probably correct seeing as the front end/steering gets more vibration/jolt abuse than any other area.

Unsolved Mysteries

Had a great couple of runs, and then, poof... weirdness happened 🤔 😁 . CVA pin/barrel opso 없어, gone, missing. Nothing like running 2½wd RC platforms...

More wear and tear fixings are a coming.

Now, the question is, do I install new barrel and pin in both CVAs, or just the one that's gone? 🤔
For a "basher" RC, I'll probably just replace/fix the one side. I guess I'll see how much wear is on the other pin.

Center Driveshafts Pin Replacement

After seven years, I think the time has come to replace the driveshafts pins. Tekno does not have any 2.5x9.8mm pins. So, Mugen Seiki to the rescue. They got to be good, right? We'll find out.

I've replaced pins on my Associated drivelines for many years. Everything has gone well. I look forward to seeing if I can get another seven years out of the driveshafts 🤞🤞
