Very nice!
My very first RC was a Grasshopper. I've been wanting to get one again, or my second, which was a Blackfoot.
I had a Blackfoot too, back then. Very fragile. Those hex dogbones were awful. I did the Thorpe Dirt Burners real dogbones & outdrives & then it stripped the diff suns & satellites. Then I drilled thru it & added 3 bolts making it a spool. Then it blew the pinion. All of this while I was 11-12 years old.

I got lucky. I never had any issues with mine. I was about the same age 10ish or so.
I remember wishing it was 4wd after the first run. hahaha

How does it like the new electronics? These cars were pretty fast back then.
I love seeing the older kits out being run still!
Honestly, I've only bench tested it. Seems fine. I've been so involved in the Kraton build, it's taken most all my time. Now I've been running it, tuning the suspension. Rainy here for the last 5 days. Not much RC stuff going on outside. The Boomerang was pretty fast with the Super Stock motor with a Nihm pack. 2s, should scoot! Tires are getting hard. It's a 2008.

I am always curious to know how these old buggies do with brushless and lipos.
Hot motors and heavy batteries were the bigest problems back then. Its like a new kit whenever I hear someone resto'ing now! Lol!
The motor is a Tamiya Super Stock 23t brushed motor. Hopefully it will hold the 2s lipo.

If it’s just a 380 or something go with a Holmes, I think they do 380’s in brushed. If it doesn’t handle 2s lipo that is.

Awesome new chapter to the build page!
Brings back some memories actually seeing one used and dirty, not so polished and dusty shelved now!

VERY COOL!!!
Thank you sir! I ran it pretty hard. And it started to rain. It did very well! Needs oil in the shocks. I jumped it a few times & of course, the front mono shock is what it is. Still, it's a very solid RC. Needs new tires if I were going to get it out more.

Gorgeous buggy. I never was a big Tamiya fan, but the vintage stuff now... I love a lot of them. The Hotshot, this Boomerang, and the old Frog/Hornet/Grasshopper set is on my wish list. Thanks for bringing back some memories.

I'd like to have an red OG front & rear mono shock Hot Shot. I think Tamiya still makes them. I think they still make the Hot Shot II, Blockhead Hot Shot II, and the Super Hot Shot, too.

I had a friend who had a Super Shot with a (Tamiya Gold?) hot motor. He ran it on 7 cells and it was CRAZY fast!
I don't recall how it did at speed once it was going but it was quick as heck to get there!
I always thought Tamiya designs were fun. Like they put a bit of fun in the kits. I mean the driver guys they include and some REAL funky overall designs. They have had trikes and wheelie riding farm tractors, monster semi's etc... I imagine in my head that the would be a fun company to work for!
I definitely have heart for some of their designs. I enjoy that they make affordable kits that appeal to pretty much every sort of person at any age. They open the doors to the R/C hobby to ppl who might not have tried it otherwise. Their kits have always been fun to build with enough challenge to keep me entertained for hours as well!
I think I just sold myself a new re-re!!! Lol!
