Has anyone every heard of Tactic radios? I'm on the search for a decent radio and receiver for my dad. The radio doesn't need to be fancy in the least bit, in fact the more simple the better.

I'd like to stay away from AM and either go FM or 2.4Ghz - the LHS suggested Tactic, any thoughts or suggestions for other radio gear?

You might try to find one of Traxxas's new 2.4 systems on eBay.

If you're looking for something with a little more adjustment capability you should try the MX-3fhss from Sanwa. I have one and it is very easy to use.

I know there are a lot of companies that are using that radio as an OEM 2.4 radio. That is the same as the the Tower Hobbies 2.4 just re-badged. I would say it is worth a shot. Futaba also has a budget 2.4 out too I posted a week or so ago. Link is below.

I have the Tactics 2.4Ghz (use it for my non-racing rc's for which I have the 3PK). I haven't had any issues with range and the features, while limited, cover most of the bases (throttle/steering trim, steering rate. No EPA). I mention range because the receivers have no external antenna wire which seems odd but again, I haven't had issues with it.

The nice thing about the Tactics is the receivers are stupid cheap ($25 a pop) so it's an inexpensive way to 2.4-ify a lot of cars. For ~$80 you get a 2.4 and a receiver. Not too shabby.

I had considered on of these for my dad too. I got him a nice Airtronics be he says there is just too much crap on it. I though it was pretty basic but....sigh. I may have to think about it some more....and for $25 a receiver....heck I can't even get a good FM for that price.

I have 2 of them Woodie and although they are low on features they work just great. I use them on my Son's rusty and the Merv. I have had no range issues what so ever and like he said $25 for an rx. they do have a steering rate adjustment to help a bit.
