Took a bad radio "hit" today that sent my Tmaxx off the track in a straight line at FULL throttle. Nothing I could do to steer it or slow it down. It hit a drain pipe and landed on it's roof with the tires ballooning. The first thing I did was shut off the transmitter to engage the fail safe, but nothing changed. The tank was dry, and it shut off before I could reach it. I thought it had thrown the rod.
Turns out that an 18 wheeler had driven by when it happened, and someone said he had probably keyed his mike, and his signal over rode mine, and that's why the fail safe didn't work. They said it had happened to others using AM radios, but no one running an FM radio ever had the problem.
Anyone else ever run into this? I got lucky. No damage, but I won't trust the stock radio any more.

That's a new one on me but completely possible. While legally most radios are not supposed to be putting out more than 25 watts of power I know you can boost them so that they are putting out over 1000 watts and they can talk to China.

You're right, El Pirata, but I once had a neighbor putting out 3400 watts wih a 220v power supply to a CB radio. My TV would go 'blue screen' every time he keyed the mike, and it sounded like he was in the room with me. If I had a tape in the stereo, I could still hear the tape, but his voice would bleed through the receiver.
I warned him once, and he stopped for a few months. When it started happening again, I told him I had contacted the FCC, and if it happened again I would give his address to them. (The FCC will confiscate ALL illegally modified equipment and fine you heavily) Since he had over 30 illegal systems, and sold them, and didn't want to quit, he moved.
Illegal truck radios are very common, and our track is barely 100 yards from a very busy intersection.

After taking that bad "hit" yesterday, and getting shaky at the track today every time I heard a big rig go by, I bought an FM.
It's the JR XR3i.
Who's got it, and how do you like it?
I'm about to start installing the Rx to have it ready for tomorrow.

Now I need some info. I am using the new radio, JR XR3i, FM. I was tweeking the mt at the track today, and got all kinds of twitching in the servos and fail safe.
Turns out that a stock Traxxas radio on AM twitched my Rx, but my FM radio had no effect on his car.
Anybody know why?
I have 3 sets of Xtals from my old Traxxas radio. Anyone know if they also work on FM?
