Ok, I have wanted to get an OS engine for a while. I want the RG, just because of all the good things that I have read about them.
Here is the situation..

I run the mach .26 in my MGT. I think I am going to keep it there.
I have the sportwerks .26 in the Mayhem... I think I am going to take it out and put it in the Savage...
I have the s.25 in the savage, and I hate this engine. I think I am going to take it out and sell it.
I was thinking about getting the RG and putting it on the buggy to replace the sportwerks .26

My question is... the RG comes as a bump start only and a pullstart.. I know bumpstart is "better", but I don't have the box or do I want to carry it.
NO RACING FOR ME.. NO TRACK!!!
So should I put the pullstart version in the Savage instead and leave the sportwerks in the buggy...
or just put a pullstart in the buggy??

And about the RG..
How does it stack up against the s25 for speed and accelleration?? Anybody tried both in a Savage?
How does it compare to the stock .21 from an MGT??
I read that replacement parts are expensive for this eingine (OS RG).. are they way overpriced in comparison to other engines?? I tried to research it and it seemed like the piston/sleeve were about 9 bucks more than the OS 30.

If I get the RG and wear it out.. (never worn out an engine.. never had one long enough to wear it out!!) Are they worth rebuilding??

Thanks, and sorry for all the questions.

Adrian

The OS RG is a very reliable engine. If you were to put it in your savage you would probably not notice a difference in performance. You're probably better off putting the Sportwerks in the Savage and putting the RG in the Mayhem.

As far as the RG wearing out, They're not worth rebuilding because of the price of the mill. At 139.99 from tower it's a good buy.

The RG is a great mill, I have ran about a gallon of fuel and it has been awsome. I have the RG pullstart in my buggy.
And I think the P&S set is like $65, plus con rod and bearings. it is expensive to rebuild but the low price and great performence makes up for it.

Will I lose a lot of top end and bottom end going from the sportwerks .26 to the RG in the buggy??

I couldn't say, but for a basic 21, the RG has good low end punch and decent midrange. It falls off in the high RPM's though and doesn't rap out really high. I ran one in my HB buggy and got around ok, but I'm only a basher. It was faster than I could control and I got it into all sorts of problems... lots of air, bad high speed wrecks...

The engine had 12 gallons on it when I had it pinched and installed it in the buggy. I put a brand new one in my savage.

As for the pinched one, I've run 2 gallons more through it since the pinch, then over the winter, I replaced the front/rear main bearings. The con-rod has almost no slop in it still. I haven't started since I re-did the bearings though. They were totally shot. I have no idea how it ran at the end of last season... it really shouldn't have. I sold the buggy but kept the engine. It's now my backup for when the one in the savage needs serviced. I'll find out then if it's still good. It still has gobs of pinch left and gets stuck at TDC after the pinch and two gallons.

Like I said in your other thread though, it's not a powerhouse, but it's reliable as they come. Running 15/52 gearing in my savage, it will pull a pretty easy wheelie on grass. I run 14/52 though because I run in a smaller skate park and I like it getting up to speed faster. I have a very difficult time keeping the front end down in grass though.
