So he is running it with the oneway bearing exposed? That is not good for the oneway or the engine. May want to tell your friend to try his hand at repairing the PS or waiting until the parts come in. Either way you will save him money in the long haul.

i told him that wasn't the way to do it. apparently he read it in some forum. believing everything in the forums he did it. i dont know if the one way is exposed, i suppose so though. it doesn't work now at all anyway. kinda sad he bought a used POS truck and thought he could dump maybe 100 or less into it and get it to work. nitro is not cheap to run. oh well, he doesn't seem to care.

i dont think i recommend 12V on that thing, you will either fry the motor or one way.

Starting Techniques For The Roto-Start

I noticed from your post that several of you were having problems starting your engines with the rotostart system. I have had a rotostart for about a year and put it on a hyper8-port, which is known for being so tight that it breaks pullstarts all the time!! I have not had any problems cranking this motor over with the roto start. But I have a technique.I worked in a hobbyshop , we sold alot of savage 25 kits with rotostarts encountered all the problems you described and we developed the following starting technique. First make sure your fuel line is transparent, so you can monitor the fuel progression to the carb during priming so you don't flood the engine. Don't connect the glow plug ignitor at this time, put your finger over the stinger on the exhaust pipe then crank the motor with the rotostart - watch the progress of the fuel thru the fuel line when it is halfway between the fuel tank and carb stop, so you don't flood the engine. Now if this is a new engine before you put on the glow plug ignitor loosen the plug about 1/8 of a turn to relieve some of the compression . Attach the glowplug ignitor, insert rotostart, crank over the motor for 3 second intervals stop for a second or two crank again until it starts, tighten up the plug and go! If the rotostart is laboring to turn over the motor stop and make sure the motor is not flooded. If it is flooded remove the plug and the fuelline to the carb and crank it over. Doing this blows excess the fuel out of the top of the motor. make sure you cover the top with a rag so you don't get nitro in your eyes. I hope this helps
