haha made you look!! ok serious now..

i got tired of my savage being a gayish purple color (no offence to anyone *** or purple on this forum.) so i decided to strip it.. i had heard about oven cleaner this and greased lightning that.. i have personly tried the oven cleaner and didnt like the results.. so i tried to greased lighting.. got it at the DOLLAR GENERAL!! for 3 bux.. big ol half gallon bottle.. works great!! only took about 2 hours to strip 4 wheels.. didnt even have to take the tires off!! got them shiney.. hit them with a rub of neverdull and slapped um back on!! heres some pics for ya..
befor..

I'm going with a black and silver (or gray) color scheam with all my rc's so that is what I'm gunning for.. i liked the results so much I'm going the head now.. (lol) just a tip.. a coke can cut in half holds a engine head nicely and you dont have to use a bunch of extra cleaner to fill up around it..

so here ya go guys.. picture proof as to which method works when deanodizing aluminum ..

well i wasn't in a hurry.. i would spray um and let them set then come back and do it again.. it took longer cause i couldnt soak them.. but i cleaned the tires to and that includes takeing them off and putting them back on.. i put the head in befor i made that post and went to check on it after.. its already white.. but neverdull will take that off..

Nice very nice..

P.S Diver6127 i can't help it but your avitar stand's out !!! The 8 car should be on there and in front of that 24 car :hehe:

:jk:

lil update.. so far I've done 4 wheels.. a engine head.. 4 buggy wheel nuts.. a fuel filter.. and some ofna linkage sliders.. just toss um in let um set about 30 min.. brush the black stuff off with a toothbrush and some mean green and hit um with neverdull.. i still got quite a bit left in the bottle.. now i just gotta take the savage apart to get the the bulk braces and the engine plate.. this is WAY better then oven cleaner!! anyone looking to strip aluminum USE GREASED LIGHTING!!! pics later after i get them all color quardinated..

I have done a-arms my chassis and my aluminum rims with that stuff it is awesome. Dirtracingfool was the one who told me about it, the best thing to do is get a plastic bowl like tuperware and put your parts in the bowl then pour the Greased Lightning in the bowl untill you submerge the parts. Then make the fluid move around by rocking the bowl back and forth, The anoidize will come off in minutes!!!

that looks good.i dont really like puple either. your truck is cool though.

um.. yeah.. Hes having a great year isnt he..lol (#8 that is)

Anyway

Yeah looks really nice! Ill have to get some greased lightning and do my head also. I'm not a fan of the purple either. Whats this "Never dull"? I never heard of it. Is it a cream or what is it exactly? Just curious. Be sure to post up some pics once ya get it all stripped down!

Its kind of like a cotton ball, you just tear off a piece and go to town, It has polish in the material. It will turn what ever your working on kind of black then you get a clean rag and wipe it off and puff super shiny!

This is what the container looks like, you can get it anywhere like Walmart :D

Here is a pic of my wheels after removing the purple.

Needless to say I had alot if time on my hands and was very bored

Ohh, ok. I actaully have some of that stuff and use it on my rims. good poop. Jess your maxx is lookin nice as hell!! I'm digin that lid!

yea the neverdull is just an aluminum polish.. it gives it a bit of shine and kinda coats the metal so it wont tarnish so fast..

i cut a pop can in half and used that to hold the head.. but it seemed to tarnish more.. i think the aluminum in the can did it.. i used a spray paint lid for the other parts and they were barely black.. i let the parts i did today set about 30 min and they were super shiney even took off the locktight in the threads!! lol jesse those are my same rims lol cept i payed WAY less than you did.. lol now you need to do your shocks.. I'm thinking about doing the shocks on my nitrosport cause there purple.. what is the deal with PURPLE aluminum??

I remember you got a real good deal on those, I paid like 30 bucks for mine, I got tired of all the purple too. 4U2NV thanks :), Since I took those pics I have added aluminum chassis braces and a Rc solution front skid plate. Oh yeah I also have a new rpm front bumper and rpm rear a arms, they are still the short ones though, someday I might add the wide arms but for now these will work and I got them dirt cheap on ebay :D

i paid $10 per set..

anyone know if you can do the shocks?? do i need to take them fully apart?? will the cleaner hurt the rubber seals?? or can i just do them whole?? there purple threaded shocks with the cap on the bottom if that makes sents.. where you fill it with oil is on the bottom of the case inside the spring if any of that matters. this is them..

If it took the thread lock off the nut, I would think it might so some harm to the rubber seals. Id just take them all apart if I was to do it.

Just do it correctly and do it once. Take it apart. Greased lightning is also an degreaser so your oil will be cleaned out as well. Good reason to rebuild your shocks.

heres some more pics of things I've stripped.. the head and sliders were purple.. the fuel filter was blue and the wheel nuts were gold (gold!!) lol
