Hey guys i have a traxxas stamped that was givin to me not sure if it works or not yet i have to charge the batteries...but my ? is do you have to run the electrics with the esc? Can i take the esc out and run just straight motor?

So you are asking if you can hook up a motor to a battery? umm....... sure...... but all it will do is run WTFO until it hits something. ESC= Electronic SPEED CONTROL. It is the component that control's the rotation of the motor. whether go, stop, reverse, and everything inbetween. So...... Yea...... its kinda important.

I'm new to the electric stuff more of a nitro guy so i was not sure what the esc did now i know what it does so i wont just hook the motor straight up to the battery....

Just givin' ya hell. Make sure when you hook up the electronics(or if they are already) that the battery and motor wires are as short as they can be while allowing you to route them properly. Check for broken or frayed wires, broken connections, and corrosion on any connectors. Monitor the temp of the ecs, battery and motor as you would a nitro rig. motor(brushed)=150. Battery=120-130. Esc=140. If you approach these temps, your either geared too high or have driveline bind. Good luck and no question is a dumb one. Even though you may catch some sh-- if you try to get around using an esc!

Ok..i know wires are already run the solder job on the motor sucks big globs, and when i got the truck from the guy he said it ran fine when he had it he sold it and the buyer sent it back to him because it did not work,so i dont know if the motor is bad the esc is bad or if the wires are cobbed uo so bad it does not work....but i can't complain for a free truck!!!

Well, if you wana be reallllly technical about his question.... yes. you can properly run a rig with out an ESC. You just have to find an OLD ass rig and take a Manual speed control out of it. HAHA Ill bet rolex has some in factory sealed packaging, just waiting for the nukes to go off and fry everyone's esc's so he can act like he's gona drive them around in his bomb shelter without pants on.........

I'm so bored........

The batteries i have are the 6 cell with the tamyia connector how long should i charge them for?

One set of batteries are panasonic it says recharge 1.5 hours at 1300mA the other battery pack has no writing on it, and the charger is a dynamite 7.2v 800mA ni-cd charger it says the input is ac 110v 60hz output dc 12v 800mA

the batteries have the dean style connectors if that sounds right but the charger is a tamyia style connector ...but i bought a dean to tamyia connector so i can charge them

Ok so i just had the battery on charge for like a half hour figured it would be enough to see if everything worked...Well i have no juice any where nothing works!!! So what to i do now is there a way to tell if the esc is bad?

LMAO, sorry man, I just couldn't resist.

Check and make sure the battery pack is good, make sure the receiver is good, and all the connections that connect everything.

We need way more info. Get yer volt meter out and see if the battery has juice. If it does, check to make sure the wires are plugged into the rx(receiver) right. Make sure them wires aren't damaged either. Even if the wires are soldered sloppy on the motor, you should still have steering. What esc is in it? How old is the truck? You can buy a brand new xl5 stampede for $150. Two 8 cell 4200mah tenergy nimhs and a universal smart charger on ebay will be about another $150. U need new batts and a charger anyways. The nicd packs you have aren't suitable for a flash light. Some pictures of the truck would be nice. If it needs new radio gear as well, your talking the price of a new one to fix the old one. This is assuming it's an older pede. Either get some pics up or list each electronic part(esc model and number, motor, rx and servo). They all say what they are on them.

Ok i am getting juice from the battery... the stering servo is a traxxas 2055,2019 controller servo i know that works just had it in my nitro maxx, esc is xl-1 forward reverse, and the motor is a traxxas stinger 20 turn....i take it as an old stampede looks nothing like the new ones body is factory painted purple with some black and yellow on it..

I'd keep it for spare parts if it were me. The new ones have way nicer, captured out drives and a way nicer slipper(I think). Tougher material, too. But if you want to make a little project with your pede, you can do it without breakin' your bank. First, get rid of the xl-1 and get a xl-5 and a 12 turn titian. You can find them for under $60 on ebay, shipped. If you opt to stick with the old tranny, I'd go with a 6 cell 3800+mah to start. Tenergy packs from allbattery.com should ship to ya for around forty bucks. The stock tranny holds up decent as long as you keep your slipper adjusted right(slip for about 2 ft under hard acceleration). If you crank the slipper down to get it to wheelie, you'll break the idler gear and take the diff gear out with it as well. You can test your steering and rx by hooking up your T Maxx rx pack to your pedes receiver. If they're shot, search ebay for a more recent TQ radio and rx, and a 2055 waterproof servo. $50 or so. The xl5 is waterproof. With a w.p. servo, water becomes much less of a worry. Just don't submerge your battery packs! Even the cost of these lower-end parts ad up. Were already up to the cost of a new xl5 pede and you still need a charger. But for under $200 bucks, you'll have a pretty decent rig. And remember we haven't covered all the nit-pickin' parts like sloppy ball ends, leaky shocks, ect... The truck you have now is probably 10 years old or better.

Ok thanks for the info....So i figured out it is the esc that is shot motor still turns over...so i will probably just buy a cheap esc/motor combo and keep the batteries and the dean style connectors, like i said i like my nitros!! the pede is not something i am gonna wanna put ne more money in that i have to just get it runnin that way a friend or the gf can run it because i dont like letting ne one else run my nitros.
