Don't suppose that receiver will work with a 3 channel remote will it... like the DX3.0? Wrong technology I think. The DX3R uses DSM2...

That thing costs as much as just the receiver for the DX3.0.

I lost interest in the DX5e after I figured out how to run dig with the 3PK.

Used one today, it's crap go with the DX6i.

What exactly makes it 'crap'. Considering I run ground vehicles only and I only want one over the DX3 because I hate trigger sets, would this still be okay? I was gonna get a DX6i but it's almost 2x the price here.

Oh and I think the DX3R is overpriced too, I know it's nice, I used one last weekend, but I would expect the DX6i is nice too, and it's half the price!

Read up and you will see, sure it is cheap, but cheap always is not the best way to go. I got my DX3R for 249.99 shipped, if had to pick another radio it would be a DX6i or My Multiplex Profi car 403. I really wanted a DX5e because of the price, but it will not fit my needs.

So basically it'd be like using my existing 2-channel AM radio but it'd be 5-channel 2.4GHz with no other advantages. I can see why that would suck.

I think you're on the money - a DX6i is still affordable but it's WAY better. Bit of a blow though, I can't afford a DX6i at the moment :(

Well, it would be better than a 2ch am, but for a 100.00 more you could get the DX6i. Again this is just MY OPINION, you can buy 3 DX5e if you want.

I'll wait and get DX6i. If I do that I only have to buy receivers for the rest o my trucks. I'll just have to wait a couple of months before I can stump up for one :\

One of the most important purchases you make in this hobby is a radio. If you buy a cheap 2 channel AM, you'll keep buying them for your other rides. If you buy a really GOOD one, you can run 30 models with the same radio, all using different setups. You can adjust any control to suit your driving needs.
Save a few more bucks and get the radio you know you'd want to use for a long time.

The 2AM wasn't an option, it is the only radio I have (and I already had it when I started back on RCs) and I use it on 2 rigs already, by swapping crystals. I'd love to be able to just tap a button or something instead, my finger nails would certainly love me much more I know that ;)

My major reasons for wanting a DX6i are thus:

AM sucks, I get a range of about 5-10m on a good set of batteries on my AM set. It's stupid. Oh and these days AM interference is everywhere.

I want a 2.4GHz set because the aerials are less cumbersome, the range is better, and you don't have to worry about channels and all that crap.

I want a stick set because, as I said above, I hate trigger & wheels sets. I grew up on sticks.

It's cheap enough to be feasible, whereas the DX3R isn't (especially given I wouldn't get on with the DX3R and it's only got 3 channels).

It's not 250 GBP, unlike it's Futaba equivalent. I love Futaba radio gear. My brother used to run it on his Tamiyas when we were kids (because he started out with a glider but couldn't afford the repairs). The problem is I can't afford FAAAST sets. I can't find a 2.4GHz stick set that's even close to the price of the DX6i. I wouldn't even care if it was 4-channel, but they just don't do them that cheap in 2.4GHz.

I'm a geek, so I love stuff with digital screens and controls :)

It's got orange bits.

Okay I'm done

I've flown airplanes since I was about 12, so, like you, my first electric car was controlled by a stick radio. It took me a while, years later, to adapt to wheel radios, but now I'm down to a 2.4 Ghz M11 for the cars and boats, and a 6 channel comp radio for the planes and helis.
Look into the M11. It's got the greatest geek screen going.
