Just had to share this little tale with you all, hope you get a kick out it.

A week or so ago I bought two .21 engines from eBay. One is an Ofna and the other a HPI. I posted pictures of them on this forum asking for help identifying them and received a tremendous amount of help. Finally determined that the Ofna is a .21 Force P4 and the HPI a Nitro Star .21BB.

So, armed with this information as well as reading in other threads that these two engines are essentially identical, I take the Ofna to my LHS to get some basic parts to bring her back to life (like a one-way bearing, pull start and fresh gaskets.) Walk into the shop, one of the better ones in Cincinnati, and Joe Frizzy-Head Know-It-All Punk starts chirping away about how he won't have any parts for that old Kyosho motor! I told him I was glad to know that, especially since I was there to get parts for this newer Ofna engine and had the part numbers for it! After he asked what it was going in and I explained that I was rebuilding a vintage Kyosho Nitro Crusher (USA-1), he looked at me like I had three eyes or something and mumbled something about it being a waste of time and impossible to find parts.

I tell you, I do not claim that I know all there is about this fantastic hobby (or addiction), but what truly chaps my ass to no end is when I have to deal with some dipshit like this! If I had wanted his opinion, I would have either asked for it or given it to him! I realize rebuilding my old Kyosho may draw the occassional snicker or chuckle, but you don't have to be ass about it!

Anyhow, walking out of there knowing I'd taught that little asshat something about engines gave me a little satisfaction.

No real point to this, just wanted to pass along a little tale.

Didn't you know? The fact that you work in a Hobby shop makes you an instant expert! LOL

I like your style. I've never seen anyone who works in the LHS who doesn't think they're not the best ever at r/c.

My hobby shop guys are usually pretty cool about stuff like that. I dont know everything there is to know about Rc's but I have enough knowledge to keep er runnin and then some, So anyway, when I go in there, they usually ask me my opinions on alot of stuff, and have even had me come into the back to fix a couple things. Nothing major, but I'm glad there actually cool and dont think there MR.Rc. Plus they listen to me when it comes to pretty much anything to get in stock..lol.. No more having to order fuel and glow plugs. (yeah before I got into Rcing there wasn't much in there for nitro stuff)

I'm lucky at myLHS they do have a little bit of that "I M RC GOD" but they temper it w/ reality.....I ask their opinion and if it sways my decision I take their advice....but they never belittle my decision on things (even when it's just wrong).....but I get asked on every thing I try as to wether or not it's durable for sure.....I'm the "I broked it" customer there.....cause it ain't fun unless you break something right????

There are about three shops within a 20 minute drive of where I live. The closest is Hobbytown USA, which is alright, except they seem to be more interested in having those card games (Magic, I think) then taking care of the customer. I've actually had to pull an employee away from a game to get a part for me because they keep engine parts hidden. It was some 16 year old and he looked at me like I'd asked him to cut his own arm off or something! I go there only when I know what I need and I'm fairly sure they have it. Another shop is a newer one. Guys that run it seem to know what they are talking about and are very nice. Problem is, they're still getting going and have nothing but the very basics in stock, so if you need a part quickly, not the place to go. I still go in to chat and browse every now and then and they have a nice indoor track set-up. The best, in my opinion, is Pit Row. While my experience there, listed in the first post, was unique, the owner and a few of his folks there truly do know what they are talking about and they take the time to talk with you and offer their advice. The owner especially is great at finding alternate solutions for a fix. He seems to know what parts will cross-over to different makes of trucks. I have also failed to come out with all the parts I need only once, so I know they have what I need. If time is working with me, I always go here first, no matter what.

Anyhow, interesting to hear from others what their LHS is like. Speaking of which, has anyone ever heard of or used www.cathobby.com? I just ordered a set of tires for my Kyosho Crusher there, but never heard of them. Just wondering.

I have one shop less than 5 minutes away. Think I have bought 3 things from them in a year and a half. Not from lack of trying either. They either don't have it or it is cheaper for me to order online. Glow plug $8, fuel $35, duratrax temp guage $45. Only a few things I can think of.
I drive an hour one-way to get my fuel. Sometimes I'll ride with someone from the airplane club or if they are going, get them to pick something up for me.
Never heard of Cat Hobby.
Good luck with the Crusher. :)

Let me know what you need . I just redid mine. As a matter of fact I walked into my Shop were I work and showed off the new paint job. I have a few extras of some of the parts.
Mine still runs but i dont run her anymore. I redid her complete. If you want some pics let me know. I have some from what she looked like to what she looks like now. The complete project. You look around the forum and search USA-1 you might find it. And as for the expert tell him to put his head between his legs and kiss hiss own ass. Have fun and I can't wait to see it

o yeah i also have the manuel so dont spend the 20 bucks from kyosho let me know if you need it.

Actually, I'm hunting for some tires for it, although I discovered that stock Clodbusters work and Tower has those. Ideally, I'd like to find some adapters to put Prolines or T-Maxx style wheels on her, but like you, I don't intend to run it much. Right now I'm in the build-back phase. I've got the front and rear ends completed and just dyed the rims (Cardinal Red). Painted the ends a dark blue, but we'll see how long that lasts! I've got a nice Spiderman monster truck body I need to touch up and do some slight repairs on for it, but I'm thinking I might get a whole new body for her as well.

I'd like to see pics of yours! Once I get mine done, I'll send some your way!

Thanks!

My hobby shop used to be 90% that card poop. Like Magic, Pokemon digimon and all that crap, but now in the same spot where they USED to be is a rack with Rc bodys on it..hehe

I hear ya! Grates me to no end when I walk in and I can't get by to the parts because there's a table of pasty-faced freaks arguing that their wizard has more power than their gnome! Get outside and get some sun for crying-out-loud!

or "my triple troll card beats your wee willy wonkee wizards wand spell card" my daughter has friends that play that crap and I just don't get it.......all kids want to do now is stay inside and play online games...."what dad??? Go outside?!?!?! In the SUN?!?!?!"

My 6 year old tried getting into Pokemon and I squashed that idea right out of the gate! If he doesn't want to go outside and play, then he can go outside and clean up dog crap! Either way, the boy is OUTSIDE!

Don't get me wrong, I liked playing those fantasy games whenI was growing up as well but Dungeons and Dragons was a bit more strategy than flipping a card!

What kids have to play with these days is keeping them inside and inactive. No wonder the US is one of the "fatest" contries out there.

LOL this sounds like my 6 year old as I'm turning off the tv and kicking his butt out the door.

I let her do TV on the weekdays but sat & sun we go out...both of us...either the track or the park or the beach.....I hat ethe heat but I can't stand sitting indoors all day when the sun is up.....
