Since winter is in full force, I've decided to stop spending $$ on my R/Cs since I probably won't be running them in the snow.
I finally got rid of my T-Maxx after having bought a Savage SS in the fall. My only other R/C right now is my Storm.

Anyway, with the cash I got from my T-Maxx I decided to build myself a new PC. I've had my current machine for about 4 years now and it was time to upgrade. This will also be the first time I built a PC on my own.

I'm just waiting for the parts to arrive from newegg.com :D
The specs:

I'm going to add a side panel window and some green LED fans shortly after I build it.

Sounds like a nice list. I have the older model of the SX1040B. It is a very nice case with plenty of room to work inside to work.

I've been looking at a case similar to that one or one of the Lan Li cases, but I can't bring myself to spend $150 for a case :\ but it would be nice for the extra room with all my drives.

I picked up the case at CompUSA. They are normally $120, but had a $20 instant rebate and a $20 mail-in rebate.

Woodie, I was in the same boat as you where I wasn't going to spend a lot on the case. I was going to get a generic case for $30 with a 400w PSU but I decided against a generic PSU. Antec PSUs go for $60 and up, so the whole case is a pretty good deal.

drop the crucial ram and go kingston hyper x. better ram

Naw. If you want rock solid memory get Corsair XMS Platinum Series Low Latency memory. I have two sticks of 512 MB PC3200. Two thumbs way up. :)

DarthRacer, I totally agree thats what I have a Enermax 465watt power supply in my case. I feel Enermax is probably the best PSU you can find.

The case I was looking at though was about $150 W/O a PSU. :\

Maybe the video card. How many games REQUIRE more than 128Mb of video RAM?? Anyway, I never said I was a gamer. Plus, I don't have $2000 to spend on all the high-end stuff. I only spent $450 total. Not bad if you think about it.

This is a list my kid put together. I never research the latest bargains and technology until it's time to upgrade. At this time I don't need to upgrade. But the kid does. Here's his list just for comparitive purposes:

CASE : SCORPIO 868W BLACK (420W) : $65.90
MOTHERBOARD : ASUS A7N8X DELUXE ATHLON/XP, DDR400, 8X : $119.90
RAM : PC-3200 512M DDR : $89.90
CPU : AMD XP 2500+ BARTON : $88.90
CPU FAN : THERMALTAKE SLIM VOLCANO 10+ : $19.90
GPU : MSI GeForce FX5200 T128 : $69.90
HDD : SEAGATE 80G 7200RPM IDE : $75.90
SUB-TOTAL : $530.30

These prices are from the best place to shop in western Washington. They're local for me but you can order online at http://www.infotechnow.com. I like 'em because they cater to people who know what they want. You go in, grab a number ticket from the dispenser, when they call your number you rattle off your components and they fill your order. There's no rows of systems with price tags and pimply-faced employees who marginally know what they're talking about. The operating systems are just that. OS's that aren't on some retailer's recovery CD with fifty billion stupid unneeded apps hogging resources in the background.

The kid'll have a better computer than me after Christmas.

Your list is a nice pc, Darth. Who can beat a free processor?

EXACTLY. I'll be sure to upgrade to a Gig of RAM (in dual-channel mode :) ) plus max-out on the Athlon XP as soon as I can.

My current PC goes like this:
Athlon 600 (classic slot-a type)
256 MB RAM
3dFX VooDoo 3000 16MB Vid Card
Western Digital 13G HD
Generic 50x CDROM
Sound Blaster Live! Sound Card (new mobo has onboard sound)

My new machine will be a big upgrade for me. :)

You will love that Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard. That is the heart of my current system and this board is nothing but rock solid. You should look into getting a Western Digital Raptor hard drive. It would take advantage of the SATA. Very speedy.
