Back when I was racing in early 2000, Slot. It(Italy) cars were the absolute best running/racing cars right out of the box. The best scaled/detailed cars were Fly(Spain) However, Fly cars needed quite a bit of tuning to race well. These 2 brands were, hands down, the most desirable by racers and collectors. Scalectrix are solid cars out of the box, and fall somewhere in-between these 2 most popular brands.

Got all the guard rails up that I wanted. Now I just gotta paint my supports and build a little bridge for one spot that needs it. I was running laps with all my cars the past couple of days with the lap counter/timer.

The results were interesting. In lane 1 (where the silver Gen 5 viper sits), I was able to do 5.6 seconds. In lane 2, I got a record of 5.2 seconds. I think that I might change the criss cross sections for ones that narrow instead. Overall though, both lanes you can fly around pretty well, but each has their spots where you can spin out and have to throttle down. I do want to eventually get some buildings and stuff to complete this thing, and maybe some better controllers. These are ok (just the stock Scalextric), but don't have a lot of travel, making it harder to more smoothly speed up or slow down accurately.

Testing each car in the faster lane (2) the best I got was:

RevoSlot Red Gen 2 Viper: 5.3s
ScaleAuto Silver Gen 5 Viper: 5.2s
Scalextric Blue Gen 4 Viper: 5.7s

The RevoSlot and ScaleAuto are very close to each other. I think I could get faster with the RevoSlot. Will be interesting to see what my custom one will do.
Very cool!! Love it!! :thumbs-up: 😁 ✌️

I have an old tyco super duper double looper. Just sitting in the closet right now been itching to set it up but don’t have any room. Once I move I will set it up. Here’s some pictures of it from a few years ago. Still have the original Lamborghinis for it plus a couple newer cars so I don’t jack those up.

Had a day off work and decided to finally tackle putting the body together for my custom slot car. And I thought working on 1/8-1/10 scale stuff was hard! LOL. Man, such tiny, delicate stuff! I managed to get it painted. Came out ok, other than a spot where I had tried to fix a minor scratch and the paint didn't quite match, but that's getting a sticker there anyway, so not a big deal.

Fits good on the chassis...time to paint.

Err - make that TWO spots I had to fix, oh well. Getting that interior put together was NOT easy! Decided to go with black metalflake paint instead of the usual jet black for the theme.

Used KBS Clear Diamond for the clearcoat, photos don't do it justice. The metalflake paint really shimmers.

Sticker will mostly cover that touchup that doesn't quite match. Shoulda just left it, it was such a tiny blemish to begin with.

Got the body finished...whew. I don't think I will be doing another one of these, lol! It's a small miracle I didn't lose any parts. Several times my wife came into the garage "What's wrong honey?", as I was searching for something that flew off trying to snap into place. Got some decals on the way to finish off the look, and some parts for the chassis coming tomorrow.

Looks awesome man!! Great job!

Very interesting. My only experience with slot cars was assembling a set for my son on Christmas eve one year. What a chore. All those little flags and railings.
I am more

This year Thomas the Tank engine will go back and forth on the mantle during Christmas on an auto reversing track.

I grew up with slot cars in the 70's and have been itching for years to put up a track in my basement. I had a cousin and uncle that built a really nice 1/43 scale track in their unfinished basement and I spent the summer of 77 down there racing every day. I guess these days there are 1/32 and 1/24 which are more popular, so I started looking into it. I figured I'd pick up a few cars and keep a lookout for a big lot of cheap track to get started. This would definitely be a Wintertime project, and really maybe something I'd just collect stuff and one day get around to doing it. About a year ago I picked up a slick 1/32 RevoSlot Viper and put it on a shelf. Incidentally, that car is what inspired me to make a Viper body for my RC drag car (along with the name of the chassis I designed). I would just keep a lookout for deals. I found a couple more Vipers (one of each "major" generation change) on the cheap. I would check eBay once in a while to see if there was a track set, and a couple weeks ago I found a great deal on a huge lot for 50 bucks. So I pounced on that!

Went to Lowes, grabbed a 4x8 sheet of plywood, some astroturf, and set up a table. I had also found another batch of cheap track, so got that too. All in all, very little spent.

These are the cars I found. Much nicer than the 1/43 and HO cars when I was a kid!

Table with the smaller batch of track arriving first.

Once all the lots arrived, I got to designing something. I wound up getting most of the track used up. All of it needed a good cleaning with fine grit sandpaper though.

Cars run great around it (I tweaked a few of the banks after taking this pic). I have a bunch of 2 inch PVC that I'll cut to make supports and replace those boxes, and I have guard rails and borders coming. I also use some of the large quantities of scrap plexiglass from vacuum forming bodies to put up some walls at the ends where curves are. I will gradually pick up some more cars over the years. All in all pretty happy with this little score! Wife really likes it and wants to race :D
That's awesome bud. I love slit cars as well I also have a track for winter. Great times. I also have the igger slot cars. That I go to a track from time to time. With a group 20 wing cars. Enjoy the fun times and races.. final track looks awesome man well done bud 👍👍

Got some decals on that I printed out myself (waterslide type). Forgot to take pics. It's definitely coming alive though. Started putting the chassis together too and found some "bugs" that will require a re-design and re-cut. This time I'll cut it on a piece of Lexan first. Tired of wasting CF sheets! Man they are getting expensive too. Double the price these days. I also mounted some LEDs behind the headlights and in the rear on the chassis. Really looks cool with the headlights lit up green. Got the rest of my decals coming this week, ones that I wanted to have professionally done.

My wife and I raced a bunch Saturday night. She whooped my butt nearly every time, lol.

Ok, sorry. Pics :D

And with the rest of the decals:

Strong resemblence I think, though I shoulda painted the stripe on the wing, dangit.

Working on the chassis, I have it mostly put together on the plate I have to toss out just to see how everything fits together. I will wire up the LEDs this week. I was contemplating using a switch activated by current to turn them on using a coin battery for power, but I think I'll just go the usual route of rigging them up directly. Probably not enough room for doing it with the external power source.
