Sledge chassis at its best?

1 Traxxas Sledge chassis plate. It only has 7 drives on it and only has been driven at the local construction site. The ruler is on the bottom of the chassis. The chassis is bowed up in the center, also if you follow the bottom edge left you'll see a mild bump up (or dip if the chassis was right side up), that's where the motor mounts. You can't see it in the picture but the chassis is also twisted.

Bashing can be hard on aluminum chassis plates.

Probably why there are so many chassis braces made from more rigid materials than the OEM stuff.

I only have one model with an aluminum plate, and I haven't given it much abuse yet...

Truth is, a aluminum chassis can bend after one run. That's the very reason I prefer plastic.

That just means it's not thick enough. I love my 8mm thick stampede chassis.

After buying an HPI Savage I do see the problem with aluminum in some areas.

Now that I have the chassis in my hands it's pretty flimsy. I'm waiting for a M2C chassis to arrive, I've always had good luck with them.

Let me know what you think about that chassis. I'm considering the same thing. Mine is still straight enough for now but I doubt it will last. I have an M2C chassis for my 8s Outcast. I'm impressed so far. They have a great warranty too.

The only issue so far is my fixed motor mount plates/shims fit too tight. The fit is very close, I think I can pound them into place with a punch. Everything else is going together perfectly. The other thing, the picture shows a blue bottom, mine is raw aluminum. I'm also replacing the hinge pin retainers and driveshafts f/c/r with M2C.

Waisted chassis, two bent shock towers, busted CV, and my A block smiles at me. The truck is getting a ground up rebuild. I didn't feel I was beating on the truck all that hard.? My view is the one thing you can't fix on a truck Traxxas got right, the gearboxes and diffs are spectacular. Everything else I can fix.

Are you going to use the factory motor mounting system? Does it work with the M2C chassis?

That was my only real complaint with the sledge. I hate the way the motor mounts. I switched to a gpm mount and am very happy with it so far.

I'll likely go with M2C's mount system when I change out the chassis.

I like the idea of a motor cradle. I had to use a tack hammer and some grease to get the Hotracing motor inserts in. The motor mesh is perfect. I own a Hobbywing porky so a KC RC motor mount may be in this truck's future, we'll see. If I go the 1515 route I'll stick to the stock motor mount. I want to get more drive time on the truck before I make any motor decisions. I already own a Monster X 8s so the ESC is covered.
