I bought a used slayer with a 3.3 on it. It's not the slayer pro frame. Its the older slayer. I took it out for a run today after I got my new servo gears. Then half a tank into the run the throttle servo wouldn't work. Found out had some bad wires on it. I could push them a certain way it would work then cut off. So I took the servo out two of the wires werent connected...ok think I found the problem. Then idk if it happened while i was running it or when i moved it. But i slid the air filter around on the carb to get to the servo. Seemed like it slid smooth. Then found out what the problem was with servo went to slide the air cleaner back where it should be and noticed a knick in the carb where connects to air filter and ripped a hole in the air filter plastic. It had always been a tight fit between the plastic tube on air filter and spur gear. But I dont think that was what caused it. Because there would be no way for the carb to get to the spur gear and get chewed up. Ill post some pics of it tomorrow. Seems like everytime I take it out it nickel and dimes me to death. That carb hasn't had a tank ran through it yet either. I dont know if I should buy the carb body or just the whole set up. There is a ring on the LSN that I'm not sure how to take off without ruining the boot.

Looks like it was rubbing on the spur gear. How could I change that so it wont happen next time?

I can see the air filter getting chewed up its a tight fit. Before I started the run it wasn't touching. But thats the only thing I can think of that'd done that. Any help would be appreciated. Don't want to buy another carb and have same thing happen again.

I have new parts coming. Didn't know if I should order a different air filter or not? I'm not really sure how the spur gear got into the carb? Maybe got a little rock stuck in between them idk. I made sure there was room in between spur gear and the air cleaner hose. I just dont see how the carb could of been ground down.

I would think that the carb itself shouldnt move anywhere. It was tight when I took the motor out. So its not like it moved anywhere. But something had to be hitting on it to do that to it. Any help would be appreciated. Dont want to put new parts on have same thing happen half a tank in.

Its a traxxas slayer 3.3 that I bought used and had been upgraded to the 3.3.

its realy hard to make anything out of the pictures anyway you could get a couple better shots and we might be able to figure it out with you.

Could be that you just got a rock or stick jammed in there and it caused the damage then flung out. The space between the spur/carb neck is very small. Doesn't take much force to crack the composite carb body.

I'm starting to think it was a small rock myself cause i was running on a road with small rocks.

You most likely have a bent chassis right where the motor mounts up.
You could also have a broken motor mount.

This problem is very common on slayers and revos because landing upside down backwords can bend the chassis and break the mount. Most people don't even notice it because the truck usually remains driveable after that.

sure hope not...if so i think I'm gettin out the nitro fun.

How do you tell if its bent?

How close should the gears be from the motor to spur gear? I lowered it and could see more of a gap between air cleaner/carb and spur gear. Still seemed to have a good mesh. Maybe the motor mount was up to far and it was catching on it? I guess I'll have to wait on new parts and see what happens when I put them on.

Do you have the chassis strengthener? I run that on my bb revo and haven't bent my engine bay area yet. Although, I do run a wing and a raised new era 3 point roll bar so the engine can't make contact with the ground.

This does help strengthen it up some:

it already has a silver one on there. I'm hoping it isn't a bent motor mount. Is there anyway to check it? I've looked at it and it doesn't seem to have any bends except for where it should. Could be small enough I don't notice it though too.

The engine mount will break, the chassis will bend. It's not too hard to bend it back, you can just use the motor mount as a guide. A shorter spur gear can also help the situation.

well i took the motor mount off there was a piece broke underneithe that you couldnt see unless you took it off. Is a slight bend to the chassis ( I think ) I'll wait till new motor mount gets here to see....This sucks was hoping I'd be able to go to the track saturday

was the pice with the two clips. I think I just got one rode hard. I prolly should have started off with a new one. Have the money into this one that I could have bought a new one. What sucks is I was going to go to a track saturday. If i'd of only took motor mount off sooner. Hada order it from Fla so hopefully it'll be here friday.

Well I got everything back in and slipper clutch flew apart about 5 ft after I started it. Had about the same mark on the new air cleaner. It didn't get into the carb though. It didn't go all the way through the air cleaner either.
