If I'm driving alone I like to stay moving. I know I burn more fuel and put more miles on the car by taking detours and backroads, but I get bored real fast when I sit in traffic, especially on the freeway. If I have a passenger I don't mind because I can converse with them.

I think either way I would get stressed out. When I was in cali, I could take the 405 home, or go through the city both took the same ammount of time. I found that while sitting in traffic I would see alot of funny stuff, but if I went through the city I got stressed. Stupid drivers, busses, peds the list goes on.

So I would sit in traffic.

I hate sitting in traffic. I would either try later or go a different route.

Man I would crank up the tunes and enjoy a cup of coffee! I try not to let traffic stress me out.

Tom

I would take the longer route and avaoid the crazees and reckless people altogether.

i only have 4-40 a/c in my truck so when it is hot outside i try to spend as little time in the truck as possible, or keep moving so my 4-40 a/c still works. so personally i would try later or take another route.

I just crank the tune's and irritate other people in traffic with my music.

I'm faced with that every morning. Luckily there's a stretch where I there's 3 exits that I can use to get to my office. The 3rd is usually the more congested. So if the backup gets too bad I can jump off earlier and get to the office. So I'm all for getting out of traffic and on to calmer streets.

Definately take another route, sitting in traffic makes my blood boil, and I feel the road rage coming on. I would much prefer to keep moving, even if it took a bit longer.

If I knew it was gonna take about the same time, I'd crank up up tunes and wait. I got a nice sterio and I love listening to it haha, plus I'd be saving gas, so its a win-win for me. Just the other day I was stuck on a back road for 45 minutes or so due to an accident, so I just sat there and played music, other people were gettin pissed and turning around, I was perfectly fine. Traffic doesn't bother me unless its some idiot going very slow when they could easily go faster. Like an old lady doing 45 on the highway, that will bother me, but not if theres nothing that can be done to speed things up like an accident.

Being in NYC, and working in Manhattan (traffic land), I sit in traffic all day.
Going home (from Queens, my office location), I can 1, sit in bumper to bumper traffic on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway for an hour and a half, or 2, I can go over a bridge to Brooklyn, another to Manhattan, cut through Manhattan, jump in the Holland Tunnel, go into New Jersey, go over the Bayonne Bridge and into Staten Island in one hour.
Choice #2 is longer in distance but no traffic.
I take # 2.

I'm with NCNitro I can't stand sitting in traffic. I don't know what I would do if I lived in congested places like LA, San Fran or NYC.

I have an uncle who works in Chicago. He drives about half way and then takes the train the rest of the way. Helps him with any traffic problems and he doesn't have to worry about a parking spot.

Ugh. LA. I lived in Santa Ana for 2 years. Worked in LA county for the last half of it. Spent my days sitting on the 5 on the way to and from work. The downside in LA is that both the Freeway and surface streets suck.

Well, the crappy DC traffic extends all the way down to where I live....especially w/ all the road work and expansion going on. I usually just crank up the tunes unless I have a certain time I need to be somewhere and will be late; in that case I ony take a different route if I know for a fact I can get there faster by taking that route. But around here, there aren't many alternate routes to take anyway that don't have traffic, so I usually leave plenty early for those rare occasions I have to be on time. Ultimately, I crank up the tunes and hang in traffic though.

damn ratzo you pass my house everyday then lol. I'm right near the holland.

Just grin and bare it... I drive about 120 miles a day (60 to and 60 from work). About 60 of which is in heavy traffic. 30 of that is bumper to bumper. The remaining 60 is open highway running 80 mph.

Been doing it for 7 years... I go through cars, but I haven't had one fail on me yet under 150K. I'm hoping the Mercury will hit 200K before giving me fits... Just rolled over 105K recently. Only 1.5 years to pay it off!

If I knew it would take the same amount of time, I'd just sit and crank the tunes! I'm actually hoping my next job has somewhat of a commute to it. At my last job, the office was only about two miles from the house. Yeah, nice if I'm running late and I could never bitch about traffic, but I had no time to decompress. Went right from a suck ass job to a house with two kids! I need a little downtime in between so I don't walk in the door some pissed off grump!
