Well my $20 Motorola V180 craigslist special crapped on me so I'm in the market for a new phone. Wife and I have AT&T and we don't plan on switching carriers since her phone is still under contract. My contract has been up for a long time now. I'm looking for good voice quality and a good speakerphone for use in the car.

Those of you that have AT&T/Cingular what phones have you had luck with? I see so many choices online but don't know what's good. The good reviews I have read on CNET are all discounted models. The wife has a RAZR and loves it except for the battery problems she's been having lately.

I always get the "Free Phone" every year.
We have 2 year contracts but they pony up a free phone once a year.
I think right now its the Raz. Good enough for me seeing as how I never use it.

Looking at their website, AT&T has 8 different "free" phones, and that is just looking at the flip phones.

The RAZR is $50 after rebate. Though the wife loves hers, it feels delicate. Maybe because it's pink?

I've used the Motorola V551 (no longer available) and the Samsung Sync. HOnestly, I think the Sync is overrated. It does some decent stuff. But since I'm one that only wants a phone (not a camera/MP3 player/laptop/Hubbel telescope/interplanetary communication system) it seems to lack a little there. Mainly in that it's not quite loud enough for me. The speakerphone is ok. But I hate the voice-activated gating. I can never hear the first 3 or 4 words when my fiance is using her speakerphone. And bluetooth volume sucks, too, but I think that's the headset. I use a wired hands free and it's good that way.

The Razr is a great and DURABLE phone. I had one and upgraded to a Chocolate but I may change to a different phone. The slider is not great and the speaker phone is crap.

Have you looked into the I phone? Or is your budget set to something lower? My friend has a pretty nice Sony Ericsson W810i. Great media phone too.

I have been using the RAZR for the last 6 months and love it. Speaker phone is OK, but a wired headset for the car would be better. The Bluetooth headset I use works fine if the car isn’t moving. Otherwise the road noise is too much even if I turn the volume up all the way on the headset. This is an issue with the headset and not the phone.

Mine is a manly charcoal in color. I am sure you can get one in “He Man Red”.

I hear ya Candyman, I'm not looking for anything other than a device that will make and take calls. I'll probably never use the camera on the phone or the web browser. The iphone is out of reach. It looks cool as hell, but I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on a phone when all I'd use it for is to make calls.

Sounds like the RAZR is the way to go. There is a RAZR V3, RAZR V3xx, and KRZR and they all come in manly colors.

I feel your pain man...I am with nextel and will be changing here soon....trying to shop for a new carrier and what they have for new phones really sucks....plus I am trying to get an extra line for the kid now too....money money money....

I am not exactly sure which RAZR I have. I know it is a V3 with something after it. Possibly the xx. I know at the time it was the only one that came in charcoal.

I never turn it off and under normal usage which amounts to about 1-2 hours of usage per week, I need to charge it once a week. Playing games and taking pics will really eat up the battery juice.

I don’t use the web at all and I occasionally take pictures. Pictures are mostly taken of the kids to use a wall paper on the phone. It uses a USB port to charge and connect to your computer. Downloading pics from the camera is a PITA since Motorola makes it so you have to purchase their $49.95 software to do it. There is some free software that will do it on the web, but I haven’t taken the time to install it and try it out.

Note that with AT&T, they have a grace period where if you don’t like the phone you can bring it back and trade it for a different one. You only need to pay the difference if you get a more expensive one.

My wife got some Samsung flip phone as her hew phone. She didn’t like it and traded it 4 days later for a Treo 650. Not sure how she goes from a flip phone to a full blown PDA/phone but she is now happy.

The funny part is that the Samsung had a $50 rebate which I had already sent in before she returned it. The Treo did not have any sort of rebate. They took the Samsung back no question asked and the $50 rebate came in the mail anyway.

RAZR V3xx it is then. Thanks for all the help guys.

I'll make note of that phone also, since I plan to do the whole package with ATT. Currently I have Bell South/AT&t for local house phone and DSL, and Cricket for the cell with unlimited long distance. That should cut my monthly phone bills by about $10.

I'm late to the dance but I got the V3xx for my wife. It's a pretty good phone, and 3G. Alot better than the older discontinued V3

I ordered one in Platinum. Hope it will last me longer than my V180.

BTW, Thanks for crapping on my thread MR4x4KING. FYI this is the General Chaos forum. RCNT is my 2nd family and if I feel like asking my bros some advice I will do that. You say the forum has gone down in the last few months...explain yourself. And what have YOU done to make it better?

The general chaos forum is a place to just bs. If you have a rc related problem you can go to the specific rc forum here on rcnt. If you don't like it just don't read the general chaos forum.

That's what I got here. I was also going to suggest the iPhone. Most of my posts as of late have been from the iPhone, don't know if I'm coming or going lately.

MR4X, because you contribute so much would you care to elaborate? Nice job dude.

This place is just that...chaos. Talk about anything not related to R/C here.

Downloading pics from my Motorola is easy.I just use the little memory card that came with it,put in in my memory card reader and download..Easy as can be..No extra software needed..

I'm lucky to have Bluetooth on both of my computers so i don't even need a cable to transfer a pic from my V3xx.
