I recently got an Exceed Forza and I have encountered a problem with it...
It doesn't shift into second gear. First gear is fine, but when it wants to shift into second, it makes a puttering sound like it's shifting for a tiny fraction of a second and then going back down. This happens about every half a second. What do you think is wrong??
(I hit a curb, which had some water in the gutter that splashed the car a little, but I don't know if the problem started before or after this)
Could it be a rock or pebble stuck in something? cause I have been running threw a patch in my street that has really little rocks

I'm not sure about the forza but on most tranny theres a shift point adjustment. you may have to adjust it up or down. Also try tightning your slipper clutch it may be to loose

Could be the slipper clutch. Mine started the 'not shifting from 1st to 2nd' thing tonight, but I know it's in the engine tune. The humidity and air temp whet up considerably the past couple of days and the motor is running pretty rich. I run it a touch rich anyway but with this kind of change in the air, it's gonna affect the tune.

Look at your motor and find the clutch bell, it'll be the gear that has the teeth on it. It drives a bigger black gear called the spur gear. Between the spur gear and the tranny you should see what looks like pads and a metal disc. The spur gear will have a nylon lock nut on it. That is what you want to tighten up. Most of them don't require much of a turn to make a big difference.

You don't want it cranked all the way down or you could damage your tanny. What the slipper clutch does: Let's say you come off a jump and your engine is revving a little, wheels are spinning, well in the air there is no resistance on your wheels so they are spinning freely. When your rig hits the ground the wheels and tranny stop spinning from the impact, in order to protect your gears in the tranny, the slipper clutch will...........well, slip momentarily and allow a smoother transfer of power back through the tranny - drvietrain and finally to the wheels.

Sorry, but i'm a real beginner. What is the tranny? And how many gears are there on the clutch bell, cause I see two gears. Same with the spur gear, are there two? I have access to one set of gears from the bottom of the car, they are black. spur gears?? It would help me if I you could tell me where these parts are in relation to the flywheel or something.

Here are some pics of my car"

The pictures are pretty out of focus and it's hard for me to tell. What kind make and model is your truck/buggy?

ya, sorry about that.

It's an Exceed Forza (like in the first post :p:) 1/10 scale buggy

Heh, maybe I should pay more attention. ;) I'll look it up and see what I can find for ya.

Ok, so apparently Exceed-RC doesn't feel the need to provide exploded views of their vehicles on their web-site. You do have the correct locations though. The clutchbell is in front of the flywheel and it connects to the 2 black gears (spur). Those 2 black gears will be connected to the tranny (transmission). There should be some kind of set up between the gears and tranny to protect the internal gears in the tranny. But I can't tell you for sure because I can't find any exploded diagrams of the vehicle.

Thanks Rolex :)

ok. so is the tranny the section with the black gears or is it the little boxes in the front and back or what?

ok, so i found the screw to adjust, but it fell out while I was driving, and now the car is stuck in second gear. I couldn't find the screw, but I found a spring. Is there a spring in that mechanism, or is it just some random spring that I found?
So is there a replacement screw that I can order, and if yes could someone give me a link?
O ya, is it bad to drive without that screw?

The spring belongs there. That's what determines when the centrifugal force will let the cog out, depending on where the screw is set. It's a grub screw. Look in your manual for the size and pick one up at a hardware store.

Well, probably not. At first I wondered about the dust, but you have exposed gears, not an enclosed trans case. You'll instantly go into second, so it will take it's toll on your clutch.
