Shattered my first piston! (pics)

Yup, metal all through the engine case, this poor AE .15x is done for! Made my usual pass down the parking lot, slowed and made my turn and tried to jump on it. I could hear the crunch from at least 30' away. At first I thought I fried the tranny, but when I pulled on the pull start and nothing moved, I knew she was dead.

Here's the pics, sorry for the crappy quality:

Now you have an excuse to buy an engine you want! I love it when they blow up.

Yup, already started shopping!

O.S. .18 CV-RX (S) w/11J Rotary Carb. $121.81 shipped via FedEx Express from RC Planet.

Or I can get the O.S. .15 CV-RX (S) w/11J Rotary Carb. from my LHS for $135 + tax if I want to stay race legal.

Now to decide to save a few bucks or pay the extra to still be able to race, hmmmm.

And you got a very expensive keychain now. That's what i did with my first connection rod, it was broken just perfectly to make a bottle opener.

As soon as I realized what happened, that's the first thing I went for. I wanted a trophy and that piston was first on the list! A dumb question I'm sure, but are all connecting rods made of that crappy white metal/alum? After getting it apart I couldn't believe how cheap it seemed. Also, the engine is only about a month old and a tank or 2 over a gallon of use, what could have caused it to let loose like that?

I had a buddy of mine bust 2 OS21RG con rod very similarly within the first gallon. Still not sure to this day why it happened.

Most con-rods are made of aluminum. I think there's someone that makes them out of titanium... but I just saw that recently.

Damn bro, first the run away rig and now the motor letting loose on you. You can't catch a break, but at least now you can get a new engine.:D

No kidding, but I'm really unsure of what mill I want :( I can't afford to spend more then $150 on a mill and I can't decide if I want to stay race legal or go bigger for bashing.

I'm not a racer..............yet, mainly cause we have no tracks around here, so I'd go the bigger motor.
