Ok, just got myself a Spektrum DX3 Tx & Rx. (E-bad).

My question is, now that i have a digital Tx & Rx, do i have to go digital with my servo's or can i keep on using my futaba S3305's ??

Also, if i DO have to go digital with my servo's, should i go coreless motored or standard motored (a new thread ??).

One final question, which is linked to the digital servo question, what is the equivelant of the futaba S3305? and should i go for servo's with more torque and speed. I like a fast response from my steering at speed and i like to be able to "lock up" my brakes at speed to slow down fast if i need to. (especially since i'm fitting n2o soon).

YES, i have downloaded and read the manual on setting up the radio before anyone asks, and even though the receiver has a built in FSU, I'm keeping my knightwing one on there as a back-up.

olds, is hi-tec better than the futaba ? I do NOT like hi-tec, but I'm beginning to like the servo you mentioned. (details below)

Futaba S3305

Volts Torque Speed

4.8V 99 oz-in. 0.25 sec/60°
6.0V 124 oz-in. 0.20 sec/60°

hitec 985MG

4.8V 133.31 oz-in. 0.16 sec/60°
6.0V 172.20 oz.in 0.13 sec/60°

I couldn't say who is better. But, I can say I've used the S3305 and it isn't really even as strong or as long lasting as the good old hitec 645MG. Cheaper though.

I've been running two of the 985MG's in my rigs for the better part of 2 years. I use them for throttle/brake because they are sealed, quick and strong enough for stopping a heavy MT all day long. I like the sealed aspect of them as a t/b servo for reliability. I've fried 3-4 S3305's and 645MG's in my day due to water getting in them as a t/b servo. The 985MG has an o-ring on the output shaft inside the case to help prevent that.

It's plenty strong to use as a MT steering servo as well. I ran one in my revo and it could go lock to lock on carpet without the truck moving.

Plenty to think about from my end. Thanks olds. I guess i better start hunting down a couple of 985MG's then

Am i right in thinking the "MG" series have metal gearing and dual bearings ??

Yes metal geared. . I really like Hitec, they are great servos, very tough and dependable. I have never had a quality issue with them at all.

I never really liked hi-tec servo's. i dropped my 625mg into my missus's buggy after i ripped it out my buggy to put the futaba servo in. just not had good experiences with hi-tec products.

jeeeeeeeeeez louiiiiiiiiiiiiiise, thats got some TORQUE !!!!! dang !! £53 GBP though, EACH !!! hmmmmmm :whhooo: :ponder2: :devious: hummmmm

Wonder what i would get with 7.2VDC Rx pack :ponder2:
