The 4.6 motor in my savage runs great until it gets through about a quarter of a tank then stalls out on me is this a tuning issue or is the motor worn out cause it has really good compression it does get real hot though is this normal for a savage thanks Larry

Also, the savage tank is known to crack where it rests on the rail. If you get a crack there, it will let air in, which will greatly affect your tune, especially once the fuel level gets that low.

Many people ditch the stock tank and seek a fuel carrying apparatus elsewhere due to the general sucky tune a good stock tank still gives you.

I made little brackets and mounted a OFNA 125cc buggy tank on the side of mine. Tune doesn't change at all from full to empty and I have yet to bust it. Looks hack, but gets the job done. Most go with a tank mod to move a similar tank up where the receiver box is. Looks better, but is more annoying to do.

"fuel carrying apparatus" lmao!

I haven't done the mod yet but this really makes sense. I experience a leaner tune mostly below 1/2 tank. Does anybody know why these tanks in particular are like that? Mine seems to have a good seal and doesn't leak.

The world will never know!... A lot of people have claimed to know. I have read everything from it's the shape of the tank to crazy pressure/volume theories....
I will admit that swapping to a different tank does make the tuning much more consistent, but all nitro cars/trucks lean out and run warmer torwards the last 1/3 of a tank. The Savage is just a little worse than others, and why after all these years HPI will not put a better tank on the truck is beyond me.
Savage owners have been complaining about this for 10 years or so.
Odd thing is I have experienced 1/2 tank lean with one engine and not had the problem with a different one on the same truck??!! Run both engines on another r/c with no problems??? My stock NitroStar .25 would heat up on me bad, but it smoked great all the way up to 300F for the first two gallons. It performed OK but was not strong enough so I sent it to TNT Mods, he turned it into a work of art. After that I could not even tell it was low on fuel, it would just run out of fuel and stop. No lean bog, no stutters while it was low on fuel. It picked up 3 1/2 extra minutes of runtime too.
I do know that if you have the slightest air leak it makes the half tank lean 10X worse. New engine bearings will help if you notice the issue after a couple gallons of fuel.
