  1. Bashing
OK, I'm really really tired of my breaking T-maxx, so I'm looking for alternatives before I get rid of it.

The only two choices I see for durability/decent performance are the Savage SS and the Monster GT. So I'm looking for opinions on which would be better for what I want to do (ZERO racing, all bashing, but speed is always fun when you are bashing with other people :) ).

Thanks!!!

Either one is great. I have the MGT but helped fix the Savage. The MGT is easier to work on IMO. TO access the savage is a little bit tight. The MGT has 1/8 scale style diffs, has reliable reverse operation. Durability I would have to say both are strong in this category. RPM just released some arms and knuckles for the MGT so it makes it more enticing for the lookers but even more for owners like me.

rpm released them parts because they are problem parts which tend to break fairly easy, like jon2 said the savage is really tight to work on but in my opinion is a more out of the box durable truck and also is priced the lowest !!

I say the Savage. Its the only truck that is strong enough not to need RPM making parts for it. That says it right there.

But if you did notice, there are a lot of aftermarket shocks out there for it... IMHO, the shocks are just to long and weak. If they had 4mm shafts, then maybe they would be better. But as it sits, their just to weak for me. Combine the shock issue, the major leaning of the tank issue, the crappy steering setup and the 2 spider diffs and you come up with a couple hundred in stuff that you should fix on the savage.

I've done all this on mine. It runs better, stays driving longer and handles better than ever.

I only post this due to not knowing anything about the MGT.

Maybe RPM doesn't make parts for the savage due to the type of parts they produce, the savage doesn't need. But the savage does have some weak spots. All are fixable for quite a bit less than AAAALLLLLLLLLLL the maxx's weak spots, but they are weak spots none the less.

Hopefully someone can post what all the weak points are for the MGT so you can add up the real final bill up front before you make your descision.

Just because the savage is cheaper off the shelf, doesn't necessarily mean it's cheaper... I learned that the hard way when I bought my 2.5 maxx. Now that I have both, I can honestly say that the savage is all aces compaired to the maxx, on or off the shelf.

Sorry, got a bit off topic there...

I have seen a few MGTs in action and i must say that i'm impressed. My father has one and my cousin has one. The few weak points on the MGT are the arms, and the drive pins. You have to make sure that red lock tite is used for the pins. The arms as long as you dont' hit another truck/buggy head on then you shouldn't have much of a problem. The engine on the GT is kick ass too. It may not have quite enough power to lift the front end, but it gets the truck up and running pretty quick, his engine has 5 gallons through it and its still going good. The servos are pretty stron out of the box, and the radio isn't too bad. Its definatly not high end, but it works great and its comfortable too. The bumpers are not the strongest either, any big jump gone wrong (landing on the nose) will break the bumper, but all of the parts are relatively sp? cheap on fleabay.

The Maxx isn't even compareable with this truck. You can throw this thing into a 180 deg corner and power out of it with no problems. Its an awsome ride and I would recommend it do anybody who looks at it! I'm very much impressed.

I had the Savage 25 and now an MGT. If I had my way, I'd have kept the Savage.

It just seems that the Savage was much more durable based on how and where I drive. The thing about the MGT is that the "Crash" guards or bumpers, or whatever you call them are pretty weak. I've broken the front and the back bumpers. Broke the screws in the plastic.

While the Savage wasn't perfect, it seemed to hold together much better.....

I've never had a MGT but I love my savage a lot. The tank does piss me off but I deal with it. I've had about 2 gallons through it with only trashing one diff and thats about it. I would definetely suggest a savage, but I've never even seen a MGT so my opinion is pretty worthless I guess...
