Savage Engines

I've had a couple SH and Dynamite engines and I know people say they are the same as the LRP engines, but they don't hold a pinch as long or put out near the power in unmodified form.

Maybe that's just the older SH's as I had the older SH28. I also had the mach 427 and losi M26SS. None of which held much of a pinch past the 4 gallon mark and became pretty temperamental to the point I'd stop running them.

I've had 4 LRP28S3's so far. Two of them I sold used with the vehicles they were in (aftershock and savage) with 4+ gallons through them and they still had pinch you can feel when warm. They put out a lot of power still. Their new owner has burned through at least another gallon in them. They run just as good now as they did during gallon 2.

I"m pretty sure my wife bought me my 5th LRP28S3 which will sit in a box for a while as I'm going to use the one out of my revo this spring on my used 1/8 buggy I picked up over Christmas. Will probably run the new one in the revo if the 3.3 with the THS pipe isn't quite enough (she also bought me the pipe for Christmas :))

I have a Dynamite 427 that started life in my LST2 and ended up in my OFNA 9.5MBX. Its on gallon 7 or 8 and its still running great. That being said its no LRP.28S3 though.

My first modded picco 28 is just about on gallon 11 and still runs strong. If you rebuild the motor between the 3-5 gallon the motor will easily last well over 10gallons. Rebuilding them is also super easy to do.

glad to here such good reviews on the lrp .28. i just recently picked up a truggy with the lrp z.28r, hitec servos, and proline paddle tires. those are the reason i got the truggy with hope of sending the lrp to robin at ercm for a mod to go into my savy.

what about the lrp zr 30x on a savage xl. also where is a good place to order one from

I've bought 2 of my 28's from rcplanet (or my wife has as a gift), 2 at my LHS and 1 on ebay. Got lucky with the ebay one, $120 new in box!

I could see the 30 or 32 having more torque than the 28, which shouldn't go unwasted on an XL if your running a steel spur. However, with the plastic spur, I can't gear mine any taller than 16/49 (or 15/49, pretty sure 16/49) without the slipper slipping, short of locking it down. Once it slips, it only takes a few hard throttle pulls to create enough heat to melt the center of the spur. The 28 can easily pull 16/47, but just that little bump is just enough torque to overcome the slippers holding abilities and burns up the spur in short order.
