  1. Bashing
Hi I am new to the forum...I know this has probably been discussed on before but I did not take the time to search for it yet....What are some of the best engines to use on a savage? I like to bash but also like to hit the road and listen to these little beasts scream.... Thanks for all opinions.

Really? We like to help here but you need to be willing to help yourself too.

Ok.. I thought it would be good to have some discussion while I learn more about the site and get to know some fellow rc hobbyists

You have a pretty good range of engines to put in there.... namely Picco and LRP. They would be my first choices.
Picco P3 .28
LRP .28
LRP .30
LRP .32

I currently have at least one of all these engines except the LRP .32. I have not used one yet but would like to give one a try to see how it does. If the .32 is anything like the others it is silly. But don't underestimate the Picco P3 .28. Of the ones listed it is the highest quality engine, however all are great engines. These are your best bang for the buck IMO.

if you got the cash and the time, Picco .28 or novarossi plus .28-7rt.
pricey, at least a gallon breakin on these motors, they are strong, quality parts. will last a long time if properly maintained.

LRP 28/32, OS 30 are good motors, seems everybody has one and dont hear many complaints. mid grade engines

Actually the Picco .28 cost LESS than the OS .30 and LRP .32. The Novarossi is not a beginner engine or a basher. They are often a bit temperamental to tune since they are such high output mills.

I am not that experienced in fine tuning these engines so I probably need something that is not real touchy in that respect ....maybe that will help narrow down the list. Thanks for all the great help you guys have already been, keep it coming!

I'll go for LRP engines, not too much price but when we are talking of quality, power and performance you will love it. That's why too much us fellow savage lover like LRP engine in their truck. Tested and proven.

I'd say get comfortable with tuning the stock rtr motor before buying an aftermarket motor. Once comfortable then grab a LRP, then move up to the picco or nova. The picco and nova are top quality motors and if you don't have the experiance to performance tune, then these motors will not perform the way they're supposed to

It looks like the LRP is the leader probably a 28 possibly a 30...how much better would a modded engine be and is the LRP available with rotostart?

If you stay stock, I would go LRP.32. If your going to get it modded then I would get the Picco.28. The picco is higher quality and has a very conservative timing profile stock. The LRP mills are close to max potential stock. a modded has a lot more to work with when it comes to the higher end mills.

I have always been a LRP and Picco fan. Can't go wrong with either engine.

Extreme RC mods has the SH 28 (same thing as LRP 28) modded for $225. That's ERCM power!

yes that ERCM modded SH .28 is crazy power.. seen a vid of it in a savage all I can say is Wicked!! best bang for your buck..

The Big block wasp engine's are great to. They may have been discontinued now though not sure. My bro had a Wasp powered three speed Savage and that thing was crazy fast. Thinking bout buying the engine from him not much run time on it. I have never run any LRP engines, everyone has good things to say about them though.

High Speed Low Drag

Amainhobbies have Orion CRF .28 engines for $219 but they are competition engines.. Solid backplate no pull or rotostart...

my stock picco is no harder to tune than my LRP 32. picco has more grunt, but i dont think theres a noticeable difference in power these two motors create. they are both good motors, easy to tune, good power
