Hello all...

Thought I'd go ahead and throw out my first question:

I live beachside and love going to the beach and took my truck there once, loved the way it handled the loose sand. However, when I was done (after a few flips due to hidden rocks) I had a lot of sand in my gears. I cleaned it up well enough, making sure to blow out any grains with compressed air.

I'm wondering if any of you run yours in sandy places and if so, how do you "sand proof" it? I've been told of one possible way to do it, but I'd like some other insights.

Thanks!

~NitroMistress.

Not sure how to sand proof one, I wish I had that problem to worry about. I know the bearings in the rigs don't like the sand and they'll wear faster when exposed to it. But we have more knowledgeable members who can answer your question better.

I've never heard of sand proofing one. All I've ever heard is that you have to clean it very well after every time you take it in the sand

Just do what you are already doing and clean it real good each time you take it to the beach you might also want to upgrade to rubber sealed bearings to help keep the sand out, and watch for excessive where on the drive lines, and your spur and clutch bell gears, areas that are exposed to the sand, you shouldn't really be getting sand in your diffs or tranny those are sealed pretty well.

Sounds like fun to me! I love hitting loose dirt to sling my rig aroud a bit.
I do agree with abadk9420, just keep doing what you are doing to keep it clean after you run it in the sand.

Thanks for the tips, guys.

The first time, I have to admit, was a pain in the ass getting all that sand out.
I was told to WD 40 the whole thing to help lessen the amount of sand and salt sticking to it. Every time I watch videos of trucks they're always in loose dirt/sand but I guess the salt and grainier texture of ocean sand makes a difference.

Thanks again!

running in sand is fun but takes alittle more tlc on your ride when your done. I've done it alot and never had problems, just clean it after your done real good making sure to get in all the small places like cup joints and such and you should be fine.
