Soooo, yeah...I didnt even have this in the air 60 seconds before I broke it this time. However I dont feel like this was entirely my fault. I thought I had switched the 230S's panic button to the gear switch but apparently I didnt do it right cuz it didnt work lol. The panic button is normally bound to the bind switch but its to hard to reach in a hurry. So can anyone tell me how to set the panic button which seems to be "aux2" to the gear switch? If I go into the switch selection menu 'gear" isnt one of the options thats listed. I read online that you have to set the "mix" switch to aux2 in the switch selection screen which is what I did but it didnt work. Anyone have any info on this?

What's a "panic" button do for you? Just curious.

I only have a tiny little MSR that I recently broke out and bought new hyperion batteries for. I forgot how terrifying that thing is to fly around my house. lol

When I let go of the steering stick on it, it rights itself... somewhat.

Blades newer models that has their so called SAFE technology built into them provides a panic button that makes the heli right itself and hover while you hold the button.

Greywolf, please don't take offense to this as I mean none at all. BUT, with a collective pitch helicopter when things go to hell they do it in a big hurry, unless you're flying pretty high up (50ft or better), I doubt that SAFE button thing is going to help any. But, I've been wrong before, sucks about the crash bud.

I've never flown a heli with any kind of assist or rescue button. I've always flown by the seat of my pants...well, since I wasn't wearing any, I flew by the cheek of my ass. Anyway, I would tend to agree with HPIguy that nothing will save it at a low altitude. I always found that if I was in trouble, throttle up to get more elevation while you process what to do next. That usually will give you time to reorient the heli and return safely. Keep in mind, that won't work if you're flying in the yard surrounded by trees.

No offense taken @HPIguy. I'm not sure how good the panic button is yet cuz I havent been able to test it much yet. As I said the bind button is to hard to reach in a hurry and I apparently didnt bind it to the gear switch properly so I havent been able to fully test how well/fast it works. I'll have to call horizon hobbies saturday and have them walk me through how to set it up on my DX8 properly. I'm not worried about the crashes. I need more practice on the micros but I can't resist the temptation to fly the 230s so I was expecting things like this to happen lol. Oh well. I just stocked up on a handful of spare parts for it since Amain is running a $15 off orders of $75 or more. I picked up some aluminum blade holders too cuz those have broken both times I've crashed. I hope thats not like putting aluminum arms on a ground kit lol

Good deal, sounds like you're on the right track then. Just keep in mind with helis, upgrading the blade grips just shifts the weak link somewhere further into the head. All that energy has to dissipate somehow in a crash, my mentality was always whatever was easiest to replace LOL.

Yeah I'm aware of that but I think it will be ok. The only thing thats broken on the holders is the ball link where it screws in to the holders keeps getting ripped out. I'm thinking if Id had aluminum ones on there nothing on the head would have broken (i hope lol) cuz neither of these wrecks were particularly bad. The last one was mostly just slamming it down on the landing skids to hard. oh well, time will tell, if i start having problems with other stuff breaking then maybe I'll go back to the plastic ones
