Well I was at the local hobby shop yesterday, killing time. I was just shooting the breez with a couple guys that work there. Then as I left, I thought, wonder if they have the new 08 chevy truck body yet. So I'm going threw all the bodies, and this name catches my eye. ROOT RIPPER. I think what the hell is that, took all the bodies off the shelf in front of it and there it was. A golf cart body with cage and all, I started giggling like a kid thinking my dads friend would poop if I painted this like his rhino. Only problem it was for a 2.5. So I'm looking at it, and said who cares, this may be my last chance to get one because proline no longer makes it so... I bought it. Its the coolest looking body I have seen and the ideas just started to poor in for paint schems. But I have a couple of questions. How do you guys get that flat black look, do you paint the out side? Also I'm looking and throwing around the idea of a air brush, dose any one know of a cheapy like around a hundred bucks, dual action, and maby hook it up to my compresser? I want to give this body the pait it deserves, and I'm thinking air brush is the only way to go. Any way, thanks for the help in advance.

I use a Faskolor F-1 for single color or overcoat applications. For detail either a Paasche or Iwata Eclipce. You always paint the inside with paint made for Lexan. As for flat you use satin or flat paint

$100 can get you a nice brush I'm pretty sure. I use a Badger Crescendo (model 175). It runs around that price and is dual action internal mix siphon feed. It's a great all around airbrush although I can't compare it to anything else.

Cool lesson ill look into that. Any one on the flat black? lol. I think rolex knows how, but I'm not shure. Or maby it was Plastdip or what ever that stuff is. I want to make the seats flat as apposed to gloss black.

Throw a pic up of this body! I really would like to see it. I think if its a detail like the seats its fine to paint on the outside in a flat black. A flat black through lexan will always look glossy because well.. lexan is shiny.

Lots of decent airbrushes out there for under $100. I am using an Iwata Revolution HP-C (something like that) and I think I paid $80 for it new. You can hook it up to a regular compressor as long as you have a decent regulator and make sure you have a moisture trap.
As far as flat colors go, gonna have to paint the outside of the body to get a flat finish since the polycarbonate adds an automatic high-gloss to any paint job. But then you run the risk of scratching the paint off under use.

I think I paid $72 for my dual action Paasche.
Anything that's flat on the outside also gets painted the same color on the inside. You can either use the Parma paints or any others to add the flat look. It's only gloss when seen through the lexan.
When the inside is painted, any scratches you get on the outside will still be the same color.
Plasti-Dip on the outside gives an even flatter look since it has a slight texture to it.

For flat black just use Krylon Ultra Flat black, and paint it on the out side of the body, lightly scuff it first. It adheres great to lexan and does not chip off after it has dried. It really holds up well, I have used it on several bodies with the most recent being my Jeep body for my tuber.

Well for those of you that wanted it heres a pic of the body. I'm still debating, doing this one myself or having someone do it for me to get the look I want lol.

thats an awsome body, good choice, i just buy random body's to airbrush evan though i dont have anything they fit on, I've just run out of body's to paint.. i think you can pick up a good starter brush for less then 100 beans, it could be a pain in the neck with a regular air compressor thou, the hose are diffrent and you have to get a regulater. the small compressed air is a pain in the neck too.. i have the chaepest compressor i could find and it works great i paid about $70 for it,maybe 2yrs ago. what kind of paint scheme are you looking for? sending it out could cost you.(i do it for free) but it takes practice to put the image thats in your head onto lexan. practice on a scrapper or something.. we expect to see pictures of it!!!

Ill probally end up doing it myself. Just not looking forward to masking lol.
