Revving with no load on tires
Is it safe for traxxas vehicles to be started on a block and have the throttle carefully played with for a few seconds to build a lil engine heat and to check for nice amounts of smoke? If not what is different on other vehicles that can handle that type of treatment?

I do it all the time to check for idle to full throttle response !
However .I don't keep at full throttle as it may blow the engine.

Yes, that is perfectly fine.
