Just dropped a new rm 523 into my Revo and the tranny gears (now metal) are bound up like fort knox-- do I need a shim?

That wouldn't be a bad idea. The gears should rotate freely.

Are your tranny gears lubricated? And did you install the gears when you put in the 523, or were they already there before?

I put them in before-- lubrication doesn't help 'cause they are too tight when mounted.

Did the gears work with your old engine? Maybe you need a stronger input shaft in the transmission. Maybe loosening the slipper clutch a little bit will help, too.
