I'm pretty good so far at removing stuff that doesn't need to be removed in order to fix something lol It does help in the long run of getting to know and understand stuff better in the begining. I'll look up some Diff's parts and see if I can swing it along with this long list of parts I'm about to order. That is a good idea, in fact I usualy order extra stuff when I break something anyways. This time around I'm ordering some RPM knuckles to cut down on my down time. I know RPM has a good warranty set up, but it will probaly take two weeks to get my old part there and the new part here. This is just to boring to wait and not having anything to drive. I guess this is why people own a half dozen cars lol

Thanks for the help
Ray

Ok I got the front diff off and opened up. It wasn't really that bad and was very enlightening how it was built. Anyways, there wasn't any oil inside the diff with the front gears...I'm guessing there should be? The ring gear has some grease on it but thats about it. So anyways, how do I go about adding oil to the diff? My guess is to just pure it in until it's level with one half of the diff case but wanted to make sure before I did anything. Also to double check I should go with the 30k in front or 50k...I got one of those Traxxas multi oil packs so oil isn't an issue.

Thanks for the help and advice people
Ray

Traxxas sucks in that they don't specify how full is full. Reading over there, some say all the way, some say about 70%. My LSP said to fill just over the cross pins for the spider gears. In the Revo I go about 80% to allow for expansion once it heats up and so it doesn't spill all over when I put the ring gear on and screw it down.

LOL Damn I feel like an idiot :loser:

Ok you all started talking about spider gears and I thought to my self:ponder2: I haven't seen any of those or anything that looks like them. So I go back to the garage and start pulling the ring gear off and there they was. Now that is very bad for someone who lobes cars and I'm not talking R/C's only lol

Anyways, I got it pulled off and it was dry also lol except for some minor grease. So do I pull these gears out and clean them or just add the oil like they are? Just wondering if that grease will mix with the new oil?

Thanks
Ray

Clean them, plus it gives a chance to inspect them for wear. If you see odd wear, consider double checking the shims for wear, or the bearing for tha matter, and reshim.

Thank you sir,

Now I wonder how well this spool I got setting here would do instead of spiders in the front :devious: Just playing, It's going in the rear once I'm through with the front :) Well I'm off to gitter done.

EDITED: Ok I got the diff and diff housing bolted together. But there is some slack in the imput shaft/Pinion gear. The gear that the drive shaft bolts to. Anyways, I can't see anything wrong with it so is this right or what?

Thanks
Ray

If there is some room and you have some shims, shim the pinion in some to take up some of the slack. On my savage, I shimmed the pinion and the whole diff from the side to take out most of the slop. You want a little gear lash, but not much. The more you have, the more likely it will tear itself up. But, you don't want the gears tight, or you fry the bearings.

Thanks people.

I got her shim'd but the bearings still has some breathing room. I'll screw her together once I get my aluminum stuff on my shocks installed. It will be a while before I can see the fruits of my labor...I sent the dust caps for my broken axle carrier to RPM for the warranty deal. I ordered some replacements RPM axle carriers but they didn't come with dust covers :(

Thanks again people for the help:cheers:

Wrenching and breaking, wrenching and breaking...ain't this fun now, Ray?!?

The major PITA is ordering parts, I breakem, order parts, week later parts come, breakem the next day lol Now the Mini T is another story, right now I break it the same day I get the new parts installed for the last time I broke it :OMG:

Anyways, I got the front installed with no extra parts left over!! Now I don't care who you are, thats got to be an acheivment there in it's own LOL :) I 'll get out there tomorrow or maybe later on tonight and get started on the rear end. I'm really starting to wonder about the rear diff...you can turn a rear time and nothing else turns. I pulled the tire off and you could spin the shaft almost freely without spinning the other tires with the truck off the ground. It maybe a good thing I'm doing this whole oil change/refill deal:ponder2:

Thanks for the help peoples.

Oh I'm sure at those speeds!

One of these days I'm going to get me a pilots Lic...just a Visual ref lic. Now speaking of flying, I may even get to do a private flight this weekend down to Tucson  :fingurescrossed: The crazy thing about all this...I'm afraid of hights :ponder2: lol

I'm not a big fan of heights either but when I have something solid underneath me I'm fine. If it's a bird I've worked on or know about, I'm good. I've been to FL510 (that's 51000 feet) and I can tell you it's one of the most impressive things I have done and something most people will never do unless they fly fighters. Have fun

Yeah, Jet and I talked about this other night. I, too, am scared of open heights. I want to jump for some reason. But I can do loops in a Cessna 150 Aerobat all day.

I think it's a controll issue for me and probaly others. I mean I may feel better off about the experience if I'm the one doing the driving so to say vs riding along with you ;)

As for the jumping out of a good airplane, that is just sick RR LOL Just playing with ya man....but to me it sounds more like facing your fears more than anything. I grew up with a mother who was afraid of everything and thus I learned a little fear my self. I've learned through the years how facing your fears will help over come them. The one thing that gives me great joy in this world is traveling and it would have never been possible if not for facing my moms fear of big cities/flying. This last year we logged 40k on our Tahoe and 90% of that was for fun. Then about 10hours flying time... I guess that is why we're flying this weekend instead of driving lol

Ray, what weight did you end up putting in the front diff? And what is planned for the rear diff?

I went with 30k in the front and a spool in the real. All you need for the spool from what I've read in the instructions is grease on the ring and pinion gears.

Speaking of rear gears...those things are toast!! When I opened it up I thought some installed some graphite grease lol Then after I got a few things cleaned up you could tell one spider was toast and the pinion has some wear to it. So now I need to order me a new pinion and a few screws. Anyone know what sizes screws these are by chance?

Shock screws both sizes
Tie rod end screws.
push rod

I went to pop a shock off and found one missing a screw. Then I lost a screw to a tie rod or push rod...I may as well buy both lol

Thanks for the help peoples.

Hey thanks, I needed that exploded view site for sure.

Well I have a mind to do pull a cheater....I found some complete screw kits on ebay for 15-22.00 depending if I get stainless or not. I know I only need a few screws but just incase I loose anymore. Now comes the hard part...ordering and waiting :( Thank God it's 20 degrees out side because I would really be depressed if it was a sunny day out there this weekend with all my trucks broke lol

Thanks again
