How can you tell if you truck is unloading on your front tires and how do you correct this?

My Revo has been pretty much hosing the front tires down like crazy here lately. I first noticed this a few days ago at a local park. The front tires would blow loose on the grass like crazy and would start ballooning out wards. Is this typical or is something up? Then today at another park/field I noticed the front tires blowing loose like crazy on this side walk. The rear tires just barely seem to move but will spin if you pick up the truck and gass it. I'm just wondering if this is just typical non biting tires or is something up?

Broke another paw

Well today at this second park, I may have gotten a little to wild. I jump the heck out of the Revo and she landed on the edge of a side walk on only one tire. It shattered one of those RPM big baring turnbuckles. It looked cool as hell but damn it will cost me around 30.00 bux to fix :( Oh well, the price of racing/bashing I guess lol

Also the rear end of the Revo is pretty sunk all the time, is this typical or should I do something to make is not squat to bad?

Thanks for your help and opinions
Ray

What your tires are doing is diffing out. Does it do it with only one front tire? Or both? If its only doing one you need a heavier diff oil in your diffs. If its doing both, I'm really not sure. But chances are it is only one. Another way to stop ballooning is to put duct tape on the inside of the tire to make it a belted tire. I did it for my LSP tires and it worked awsome!

You have the new RPM steering knuckles? I need pics of that break! RPM guarantees thier stuff for life so get them to replace it.

To keep the rear from diggin in so much move up the pre-load a bit, and maybe consider moving the toe to a neutral or slightly out (ever so slightly). Toe in gives a lot more bite.

Yeah RPM will warranty thier stuff as long as there are no signs of neglect. Which I've heard stories of some of the stuff they replaced and couldn't believe it. Anyway, contact their support department. What tires are you running? I'm with VB on this one with heavier fluid, though your front dif may be low or empty. Pull it apart and make sure there's fluid in it. Mine were pretty dry the first time I checked them and I was just working on my new LSP and all three diff were almost dry on a brand new one

WOW THey garante it for life!!

Damn well here is a picture of the big pice thats left...it's kinda cool looking :) I'm not sure how old it is but it can't be that old. Their the black looking ones you see for sale on tower's site. Anyone know how I can see about getting RPM to replace it?

You're correct, it's only the front right tire or passenger front tire doing the ballooning out. Do you got any ideas on what weight to use and no, I'm not sure what is in there already. It's probaly stock weight but who knows.

Thanks

Anyway, contact their support department

Just pull up their site and go to support.

I would go up 10 weight at a time until you were satisfied. If I remember, 50 wt is stock. And you might have leaked all of it out so it could be a matter of just having fluid at all!

(reminds me, check mine!)

They just came out in late nov/dec. One thing though, they will not warranty them if you are using the long travel rockers, I just remembered reading that. Are you using the LT's?

I'm pretty sure they're the stock plastic arms....P1 90T? Either way, I wonder how they woud know the differnce anyways:ponder2:

Any how, I should use a 40,000 weight oil for the diffs?

RR, you could be on to something there....this front tire deal is a new issue. I guess it's time I figured out how to check/add oil to the deffs ;)

Thanks people

I would say you'd be fine with 30K, since I've been into the diffs on a couple trucks for a first time tear down, most were pretty empty. The LT is not the arms it's the rockers and maybe the rod length too but can't recall about the rodss. I think they can tell by the way they break, they seemed to be very specific about the LT's and lead on that they would know. Anyway, good luck with it, they should take care of you.

I'll get it shipped out today or Monday and let you know what they tell me.

Anyways my rockers...the deals in between the shocks and push rods have P1 90T stampt on them. I'm pretty sure the Long travels are P2 or P3 120T's but I'll still not sure on it.

Thanks
Ray

Ok I finnaly went out and double checked my rockers...

They read as follows... "Progressive 90T P1's." So I should be good to go with RPM. I do have a set of rockers that are NOT on the truck that reads "Long travel 120LT."

Thanks for the help

I think everyone has a set of LT's in their box! LOL Anyone using LT's???? RPM is pretty good, they should take care of ya!

As for the diff, if you don't mind the heavier oil, use it. It's thicker and stays in the diffs longer.

I run 50K on my savage. I ran 7k/10k and it leaked out after a gallon or so of use. I didn't like how "loose" it felt anyway even when they were full. The 50k is on gallon 3 and still seems to be in the diff.

I'd prefer something a little heavier than stock on the revo for the diff fluid as well.

Well heck, the heaviest the shop had was like 5k and so I got it :( The LHS seem to think I was strange asking for something has heavy as 30k weight oil and asked if I ment 3k. They kept talking about running 7/5/1 in their buggys while trying to figure out what the Revo should have. Anyways, I'll order something heavier and make due with the 5k until what I order gets in.

Thanks
Ray

Buggy's run much lighter fluid. I run 5-5-3 in my XB8. Truggies are a little thicker, I just started with 7-10-3 in my LSP. Buggies and Truggies have center diffs not tranny's. Traxxas has a 3 pack of diff fluids you might find on eBay or something. It is 10K, 30K, and 50K. On my Revo I am running 30K and 50K. The 50K really keeps my rear tires from spinning or breaking loose. 30K is stock and I haven't see a reason to switch up front. If you can't find anything around let me know, I'll check out my LHS. I'll add that your hands will get cramped squeezing the 50K out of the bottle! The term thicker than molases in January is very fitting.

Thanks, I guess these guys pretty much run buggies around here. I'm currently in the middle of ordering some stuff from Tower Hobby and added that three pack of oil you mentioned. Do you have to pull the deff out to swap fluids or can do it with them still in the truck...I guess I'm being lazy by asking.

Thanks again
Ray

No, you're going to have to break a pretty good bit of your rig down to get to the diff's, man. Just do them one at a time and, when you put them back in, make sure you have them facing the right way or the wheels will spin the wrong direction (not that I've personally done that, just what Rancher told me he did once!)

It's not hard to do, but it's not something you can knock out in half a hour either.

Well I guess I'll understand my Revo a little more than I do now after I'm done lubing her up :) This stuff seems pretty scary at first but once you get it started, that fear turns to fun and the times flys faster than you wanted it to. Nowe is there anything type of reinforcing or type of mod that I should do or may want to do while I have most of this rig a part?

Thanks
Ray

You may want to have a spare diff rebuild kit on hand just in case you get into it and you find some chewed up gears. Also wouldn't hurt if you tear the gasket or it's chewed up as well. Guess most of that is just habit for me working on airplanes, if you tear something open it gets new going back together. Anyway, the first time you remove the diff you find you took way too much stuff off. You'll figure out what needs to come off and what doesn't! LOL You can basically pull almost the whole front or rear off as an assembly. Being your first, take it slow and if you think it needs to come off, pull it. The outer case is marked "Up" so make sure it goes up, I've read about several people putting one in upside down or both upside down.
