Hiya Guys,

So i'm having further drive issues, bit of intermittant lack of drive, no reverse at all...

So with this being the second issue of this kind i have had i wanna go with this FOC..

How easy is this to do, does the kit i have seen advertised come with full instructions...

If i do this does this mean i can lose the optidrive unit.. if so how do i switch the power on to the unit or does that section not change and i just disconnect the optidrive.. coz inside that section are all the reciever bits n bobs...

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Bri
P.s Hop ups.. skids plates, and body tower posts.. are these worth hopping up and if so what reccomendations do you guys have ??

Yep, the FOC ditches the OptiDrive and the third micro servo, all the linkage and extra wiring. I am not sure what is causing your current problem, though. I think it might be a stripped or bad gear inside the trans case. First, though, check your slipper clutch tightness, and also make sure all three of your slippre clutch pads are present and not excessively worn. Mine did that when it was only about 4 months old. I thought it had ate a gear inside the trans. Ended up being all three of the slipper pads were gone.

A FOC is a great idea

It's not hard at all, and it does come with instructions. You will have to take the tranny apart.

Yes you can scrap the optidrive, and the micro servo, if I remember right, they just unplugs from the receiver

First, though, check your slipper clutch tightness,...Revo...

How tight should it be my friend coz i aint sure how tight to have it .. it's very tight at the mo is there meant to be any play there...

To adjust it properly, turn the nut that is on the spur gear shaft all the way in. This will compress the slipper clutch spring all the way. Then back it out 1/4 turn.

Bristar, I just did the FOC and it truly is easy, just download the instruction sheet from Traxxas because some of the older kits miss a step in there.

The instructions also walk you through, very detailed, how you unhook the OptiDrive unit and plug everything into the RX. Chances are, though, once you see it, you won't need it. It's pretty straight forward.

I'd LOVE to tell you how great it is, but Tower is taking its sweet old time sending my rotostart backplate for my mill!

As to some hop-ups, I just added Integy front and rear skid plates, Integy axle carriers and an Integy tank guard. Just a touch of bling! They were 50% off, too, so that didn't suck!

Good luck on the FOC!

The sooner you ditch the micro-POS and sloptidrive the happier you'll be! They both suck and are nothing but a headache. Careful with the instructions, some of the early FOC kits had some errors and they had to re-issue directions. I think MonkeyWrench just ran into this. The proper directions are on the Revo Resources section at Traxxas' website if you want to double check.

**Damn Monkey, you quick! Beat me to it bro!

Didn't mean to steal your thunder, chief! If you hadn't suggested, chances are I'd still be scratching my head on that thing!

Now.....if I could only find a Tekno R/C throttle servo mount!

Try and PM MyJeep, if he hasn't left for Malaysia yet he may still have one. He had some for sale here. Not sure of his local right now though.

One of my main issues in picking a MT was it had to have Reverse. I bought my Revo used through RushRc and it already had the FOC done to it. I said what the heck, if I didn't like it, I would just swap the reverse stuff back in. I've never thought twice about the reverse sence :) My friend keeps his Tmaxx at my house and it's got the reverse in it. It drives me up the wall sometimes and I threaten to do a FOC on it all the time ;)

Ordered

OK fella's i'vce ordered my FOC conversion from my LHS..

Should recieve on Tuesday so will get that done straight away, just about to jump onto the traxxas website and check out the instructions..

After taking out the transmission unit again i discovered that the cog had been stripped, again.. What a PITA that is.. that's the second time in less than three weeks of having the truck... What are traxxas thinking supplying a unit with an optidrive that effectivily does not do what it's supposed to do...

Not impressed with that, but hey.. Once i've done the conversion the problem should go away... Don't really use reverse much anyhow..

I got another question though.. I've seen a lot of you talking about single servo steering... What advantages does this give...??
Does it stop that annoying sound of the servo's fighting against each other all the time..??

Does it give any actual better response on steering...??

Is it more reliable??

Is it hard to do ??

Sorry to keep asking all these questions but as i get deeper into this i find myself wanting to stop these odd annoying issues i get with my truck...
My aim is to be able to go out and blast the truck without worrying about shredding gears and other issues...
I really appreacite all the help you give guys,...

I added some comments in red. Hope they help!

Does it stop that annoying sound of the servo's fighting against each other all the time..?? Oh yeah! It also helps increase your battery time because you're only driving one servo.

Does it give any actual better response on steering...?? Yes, if you go with a high torque single servo, heavy duty servo saver spring from Traxxas and Proline (or like) steering arm, your response will be much crisper with less slop. You will also want to do the Slayden steering mods that are posted on the Traxxas web site. It's a night and day difference!

Is it more reliable?? I think so. Two servos=twice as many chances for something to fail, right?

Is it hard to do ?? Nah! Super easy! I'll bet Beason could do it, and I fairly certain he's functionally retarded!

With reverse installed the internal tranny gears aren't as beefy. You could always run your truck without a sloptidrive but you have to remember to make sure you are comletely stopped before shifting into forward or reverse. Going with the FOC sheds alot of weight, BTW. Single steering servo is a point gainer in many different aspects. You'll have ONE servo with more power (in most cases) than the two stockers. Your runtimes will increase, cause no matter how good you think you have the dual servo setup adjusted, they fight each other and wear down the battery. A single better servo along with the heavy duty servo saver is going to give you all around better steering as far as smoothness and response and being able to throw those big meats up front around! HTH

Well, they beat me to it, and said it all. I personally think my steering response and strength is BETTER with the one servo i am using. Just make sure you go to a super torque servo.

crap i gotta get up earlier. oh well, just listen to these guys and you can't go wrong. well, as long as they're telling you about r/c anyway. if you have trouble with your girlfriend or something, for your sake, go somewhere else for advice. lol!

You got a part number or a kit number to do this convertion with? I found some 5055 type servo on ebay but didn't know if thats the one.

I'm slowly starting to mod my Revo and I'm thinking of doing this. So far I got a pice of a skid plate lol and added a 9" pressure hose to it. I'm about to go take her out for a spin and see if this helps with the whole half tank issue.

Thanks
Ray

There is no kit per say for the single steering servo but here's what you do:
Get a new high torque servo such as the JR 650M or the Airtronics 94358 or JR Z8800T
Remove both steering servo's and mount the new servo on which ever side you wish (I did the left).
Get the Heavy Duty Servo saver p/n 5344X
You can either keep the stock steering arm as is or cut off the end that isn't attached to a servo (if you keep the stock I recommend cutting it off) or get the single servo arm made by Proline.

Also as mentioned do all the steering mods that Slayden has posted on the Traxxas Revo Resources section.

...or a Hitec 645 or 945MG...:2cents:

And part number 5344X is just the HD servo saver spring, so don't expect more pieces! Well worth it, though. Can be hard to find, at least it was for me.
