So I slapped a used receiver in an electric Rustler I have kicking around, and I'm getting a weird problem. It works great, but only for a range of @ 8 feet. If I get further than that away from the car, it spazs out and stops responding. I've tried changing crystals, tried different transmitters with it....nothing seems to resolve it.

Is it dead, or just getting interference from somewhere? I used the same crystals in another receiver and it works fine....so I kind of ruled out interference, but still not 100% sure on that.

It's an older HiTec AM Receiver, with a full charger, and the car has a full charge as well. Any ideas? I have no problem tossing it in the trash, but just wanna make sure it's dead before I do that.

what radio is it? make sure that the crystles are in right, the transmitter has a "T" and the reciever has an "R". it sounds like thats the problem.. also make sure the antenna isnt cracked on the reciever, tho you should have more the 8' with that problem..

Sounds like either the antenna in the transmitter is not making a good connection internally or your receiver antenna is broken somewhere you can't see. Could also be a cold solder joint on the receiver antenna to the main board.

I have confirmed that the TX is just fine. I used another receiver and the same TX with the same crystal I pulled out the wacky receiver is working with it as well.

Could be an antenna issue on the receiver, but the wire is still quite long and doesn't appear to be broken. I may have to cut it and see if I can disect it a bit more...and maybe solder a new one in place.

It's a HiTec AM Radio that I got from a swap for Savage wheels ;-) That receiver wasn;t working at all, but I had the same exact one in the toolbox of stuff I got in trade yesterday so trying that one instead.

I ended up slapping a Novak receiver in it for now, but could use this one working for another AM Radio I still have. I'll troubleshoot more tomorrow and report back what I find, if anything.

I'm a n00b. I was using a 75Mhz radio and a 27Mhz Receiver. I had the casing off of it and just finally realized this tonight.

/facepalm
